Hey, I recently broke my keyboard (which was a cheap 8$ one) and I am looking for a gaming keyboard thats not expensive. (30-60$)

Can someone help me with some recommendations? I never had a gaming keyboard before so my experience is 0.

Thanks :)

http://www.amazon.com/Saitek-PZ30AU-Eclipse-Keyboard/dp/B0007TJ7TE/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1258742051&sr=8-4

By far the best for price vs. performance. Amazing keyboard at a low cost.

Over your budget, but more on the performance side.

You know, I got a Logitech G11 keyboard early last year ( 2008 ) because I thought it would be great due to all the good reviews. But a few months later some of the keys no longer registered, and a couple of months after that it just stopped working altogether. I later found out that other people had experienced exactly the same thing. So I went back to the cheap Logitech keyboard I'd been using for a few years, which is still functioning even now.

I've looked into some other 'gaming' keyboards, and seen similar reports about keys ceasing to function after a short time. Mostly with models that have backlit keys.

So my advice is to be very wary, and do a lot of research before deciding on a particular keyboard. Check user reviews and forums.

Personally, I think expensive gaming keyboards are a waste of money, and less reliable.

Yeah. I have a Razer tarantula keyboard. it works great, but honestly, I don't really use the macro keys hardly at all. Other than looking cool, I might as well be using a regular keyboard.

Yeah, I had a g11 too and it was rubbish, sold it the day after I got it :D You had to press the keys quite hard for them to register and the ctrl button was stiff and awkward. Never had a problem with saitek keyboards, they're great. I wouldn't buy anything from logitech ever again.

I have a Razer Lycosa and it's a good keyboard, every key can be reprogrammed for games and the keyboard itself has great feedback and response with short presses, very precise. Also feels nice whilst typing :)

The cons however are the media keys, you can only set them to one program at a time (itunes, windows media player or winamp if I remember correctly) and they are touch buttons instead of keys so they don't work so well and have a habit of ceasing to work all together till you restart the computer or keyboard (by replugging it in).

Also it takes up 2 USB ports but has a USB port on the keyboard itself... I would rather it just use 1 USB personally and have another free on my computer but oh well.

But yes it's a very nice gaming keyboard that looks slick and is a nice standard size unlike most gaming keyboards which are quite big/dorky/ostentatious.

i didn't know there were such things as gaming keyboards. :o they all seem pretty much the same to me. How do they affect your ability to play a game? All you're doing is pushing buttons, it's not like it can be more accurate or something...

Well in my experience, the macro keys only really come in to play for say something like WoW. Although WoW has it's own built in macro system, so I don't even see the need to utilize macro keys.

Good gaming keyboards reduce the response time from the keyboard to computer to game, it's called controller lag. Also standard keyboards usually have a limit to how many keys you can press at the same time before it just won't register... Gaming keyboards allow for a lot more simultaneous inputs.

Then there's the macros system etc, my keyboard allows me to have like 7 different profiles so I could set my layout for 7 different games.
