For some reason I have always loved R.T.S. games. Now I want to know which game is the best and, which company is the best to buy from. here's a list of some to chose from.
1. blizard has warcraft and starcraft ,but I am kinda mad at them for focusing all their time and money on R.P.G's. WOW, diablo three, and now rumors on world of starcraft! I cant take it!
2. west wood has never made very good games, but they have never made very bad games. Their new C&C generals games are getting better with each game. Plus there new game tiberum wars looks very promising.
3. Microsoft has halo wars. It looks like it will be good. ( I am sure that Microsoft has made other good ones that I don't know about)
4. ensemble studios has age of mythology ,and age of empires 1-3. Their games are always good but they are never very addictive.
5. firaxis games has the civilization siers I have never played these games. So I cant say much. ( turn base strategies are never very good)
6. gas powered games made supreme commanders.the game looks great ,but half impossible to run ( at least for me :cry: )
Actually Sims 2 is 100% an RTS. And there is nothing that even comes close as being as large, expansive, or immersive. Not to mention that the Sims franchise is the best selling computer game of all time.
So it’s both a fact and my opinion that’s Sims 2 is the best RTS ever made.Â

Um... Westwood has made EXCELLENT games, red alert games are classics. You can't really put microsoft for halo wars seeing as there's zero info on it. Turn based doesn't = bad You left out Dawn of War and Company of Heroes made by Relic which are both one of the best RTS games ever.
I have to agree about Westwood making excellent games, they pretty much made RTS games popular in the early to mid nineties with Dune and C&C. People tend to forget that C&C came about due to the popularity of Dune, a classic game people tend to overlook. I'm surprised more didn't mention the Total War series, an impressive achievement for the genre.

Yea if it wasn't for dune rts genre wouldn't have gotten this far,almost every rts uses the base building concept that Westwood started with Dune.
The best RTS company is by far Relic. They made both the Dawn of War series and very recently, Company of Heroes.
It's great if you like other RTS's and prefer them over the two I mentioned but you'd be very wrong to argue that they are not the most advanced RTS's ever made and are really pushing the genre to become better and more original.
If you haven't played Company of Heroes yet, go pick it up - it's absolutely amazing.
My favorite RTS is got to be StarCraft from Blizzard. I got that game like 8 years ago and still play it time to time. It's an amazing game that hasn't really aged. I would love to try out that Company of Heroes but my computer won't be able to handle that.
StarCraft is the best hands down. its the best selling rts with 9.5 mill sells. the runner up is red alert 2 with 3 mill but i hated the westwood games cuz they are all pretty much the same. StarCraft has 3 totally different races with no equal and any side and also has perfect balance. Blizzard is kool cuz I havent seen another company pulled that off.
Its gotta be WestWood and Command & Conquer. They Revolutionised RTS with C&C and Dune. If it wernt for them RTS wouldent be what it is today :) Although the Dawn Of war games are also Excelent.

Sales doesn't mean its better,through Red Alert 2 sold 4 million and i am pretty sure Red Alert 1 sold more.I'll give you your opinion through i don't agree with it.

Yea Relic should be there they are a consistatly good at making RTS the past gen and pushing the genre foward.
Relic created Warhammer 40k Dawn of War, Warhammer 40k Winterassualt expansion, Warhammer 40k Dark Crusade, Company of Heros, Homeworld 1, Homeworld 2, as well as impossible creatures. If this doesn't qualify them to at least be mentioned I don't know what will.
Actually, Westwood only made (at least) great games. Generals wasnt made by them as they were disbanded as a company before, and EA took over (Dont expect a lot from C&C3). Correct me if Im wrong...
