I really want a space-themed turn-based strategy game, but I don't know which is best. I was looking at Galactic Civilizations II and Sword of the Stars, but I don't know.

Galactic civilizations II is great. I enjoyed Star Wars Rebellion. Alpha centauri is also really really really good. Take civilization but in a sci-fi setting. Masters of orion II is also a classic

Galactic Civilizations II is a very addictive and well designed TBS...go for it. To make things even better, it has no DRM.

GalCiv II is a good choice (Get the Ultimate pack w/ all expansions); Sword of the Stars isn't too bad either - a slightly different twist on the 4X genre
