2.0 or 2.1? If you want some heavy bass a 2.1 would be the best bet, but you'll sacrifice some performance in the mid-high.

2.1 set for $157:

Dayton B-652Speakers + Dayton T-Amp - $58

Dayton SUB-80 - $99

or

2.0 set for $155

Swan D1010MKII 08

I have these Logitech 5.1's... free shipping from newegg, as well.. They sound pretty good, to me... Although, they don't have digital cable support. It's only supports minijack for Front, Back, and Center/woofer. So I'd be sure that your sound card has the 3 output minijacks before buying. It has no optic cable support nor Coex cable support.

Hmm, thanks you're the 2nd person to recommend those Swans to me. I just just cough up another 30ish and buy the D1080.

Yeah I'd say the extra $34 is worth it for the D1080MKII 08s.

I cannot recommend these any more. Amazing sound, incredibly durable. These things have been to hell in back. They were used at a party at full blast for a while were they got pretty loud. I thought they were broken for sure after that, but no- they still sound perfect. Seriously, I'm listening to them now, it's just amazing. I actually have the series 1, but they sound really dynamic and rich.

If you're just going to be primarily gaming then you can make do with some logitechs. They're not accurate at all, but they tend to have "thumpy" mids and heavy bass.

I heard about those $30 Dayton speakers, gonna check them out for the family room and see about for my PC, also there are these powered M-Audio speakers for about $100 i was looking at. When you put those bookshelves on your desk what do you guys put underneath them? I was thinking some hardwood flooring felt pads.. Don't normally like brown, but damn these are sexy!! http://www.theaudioinsider.com/product_info.php?p=swan-m10&products_id=89

I'll second these recommendation and add one more option: the M-Audio Studiophile AV 40's (Amazon $150).

Personally I'd go with the Dayton setup. Note that in all of these cases, though, you will need to purchase wiring. Make sure you are using the correct cables; you can pretty much get anything you need from Parts Express at a good price.

Happy gaming!
