Best Story for an RTS?

Best story for an RTS? I say a tie between Warcraft 3 and Homeworld.

I dunno. Warcraft 3 was a bit too trope-laden for my tastes.

It's not a tie between Warcraft 3 and Homeworld... Homeworld has by far the best story in an RTS and probably one of the best stories in a video game ever made. It's always completely overlooked. Makes me sad.

Homeworld's story is extremely unique and filled with emotion. You get so attachedto the people even when you don't even see a single one. You throw in some amazing music and some extremely high production values (even by today's standards) and the game is just amazing. The story moves along so beautifully and the pace is excellent. You just want to know what happens next.

World in Conflict

Hmm...I don't exactly equate RTS with good story. In most games there's simply no real interaction, just a few cutscenes or some in-game messages. I really wouldn't know, all RTSs I've played have had mediocre story at best. It simply doesn't mix, not pure RTS. A mix of RPG and RTS would probably be great though, and would allow for much better stories/gameplay/immersion.

C&C 3 is not Tiberian Sun. Did you mean Tiberium Wars or actually Tiberian Sun (C&C 2)?

My vote goes out to Warcraft 3, then not far behind World in Conflict.

not only was the story itself excellent, but the mechanics used to tell the story were great. Excellent voiceacting, cool animation sequences, and immersive in-game moments.

Homeworld. Duh, anyone who says otherwise hasn't played it. It had such a unique feel and the whole "We're lost in space but we're going home!" thing going on along with some parallels to Exodus and The Odyssey it was wonderfully written and really felt desperate at times.

I haven't played Homeworld or any of the Starcrafts, but so far Warcraft III takes the best story for me. Now I want to play Homeworld... I'll be on the lookout for it.

Warcraft 3 gets my vote.

That was truly a saddening scene, you felt really sorry for him for the entire game . Im gonna go for World In Conflict, It featured an emotional depth that is rarely seen in RTS (and games in general)

I haven't played Homeworld but i'm probably gonna pick it up sometime. Everyone in this thread speaks so highly about it.

you do realise their is no point creating a poll with SC2 in it don't you, even if it's terrible the fanboys will still vote for it...

Homeworld wins by virtue of being the least cheesy and most emotionally involving story on your list.
