well, i guess i'll start off by saying when it comes to televisions and other electronics i'm not very educated. so, in a few months i'll be going out for a new tv and want to get a decent one, and was wondering what are the best tv brands? i know that there are obvious lower tier ones like dynex, and higher tier ones like panasonic, sony, and samsung. so if you guys could, just list me some of the better television brands. thanks.

Personally i would say look for tv specs before the brand when looking for a new HDTV. For example, lets say you see a cheap Vizio (the ones they sell at walmart) with 1080p, hdmi inputs, high contrast ratio against a sony that has 1080i, no hdmi input and low contrast ration..which one is the best one? the vizio because of its specs not its brand. So make sure you compare specs between tvs such as 1080p, hdmi inputs, high contrast ratio, power consumption, lcd vs plasma. Here is a good link that defines many HDTV terms and what to look for: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-DyenicOGkQU/learn/learningcenter/home/tv_glossary.html

Currently Pioneer is still the best brand with the Elite Kuro line of Plasmas, but they have been discontinued (Fortunately I got my Elite Kurolast December). Since Pioneer is leaving the TV market a good number of their staff moved to Panasonic, though Pioneer still has the patents for the Elite Kuro, Panasonic will most likely surpass them if not this year than the next.

Panasonic right nowhas some of the best HDTV's on the market after the Elite Kuro, and unlike Pioneer, Panasonic's HDTVs are at a very fair, and affordable price range. Sony's and Samsung's LED/LCD TV's are not at the level of Panasonic's Plasmas, but are lighter and consume less power. Also Sony/Samsung tend to have TV's priced at the higher end of the spectrum. Vizio TV's are also said to be pretty good for their price, but not at the same level as Panasonic/Sony/Samsung.

Personally I would look at the Panasonic plasma line for some of the best performance and very reasonable pricing. Also I would avoid Sharp.

If only you could use paragraphs, it might be a bit easier to understand.

Samsung, LG, Panasonic, Sony, and Pioneer are easily the best manufacturers.
