What RTS should I get? I been loving Total War2 but want some human competition. I used to play Age of Empires 2 online and loved it...I been playing Company of Heroes too and is awesome, but I enjoy a defensive strategy and some base building like in AoE 2 you could build a fortress and a wonder (repel the invaders, secure all the resources and stop the rushers)..I can't stand RTS games where 95% of the time the winner is who ever rushes the fastest. I tryed the demo for World in Conflict and looks like a all offensive game. I read the reviews for AoE3 and says they have taken out the wonders and have dumbed it down to go after the more casual gamer (what a shame)? The graphics have to be half decent too, think I will lose interest if they suck or I try a older title. Any suggestions?

Really, you should try AOE3 it's a very good game, or warcraft 3, i've also heard warhammer age of dawn or somthing along those lines is ment to be really good too, not tried it myself tho! the RTS's i'm waiting for are AOE3 expansion and Starcraft 2 :)

Ya, I like to turtle as well and Supreme Commander is simply awesome. You can build up some great defenses, then just bide your time 'til youre ready to strike!

Try Rise of nations. It's a perfected old school RTS, and you can build Wonders!

Can you build a castle with substantial defenses in AoE3to repel armies while you try to secure resources or is it a race to build the largest army and rush your opponent's? I gonna see if I can find demo...

Blizzard RTS games are the only ones I play online. Too bad they release one RTS in 5 years or so.
SC2 should be here within few years, WCIII TFT remains the best choice for now.

Most of RTS games simply don't have good MP support and die out.

It's warhammer 40,000 dawn of war !!! , and don't let the THQ brand fool you, the games are made by Relic, it is a very good game with a good difficulty level, plus it has 2 expansions

2 - Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: winter assault with a new playable faction (needs the original game to install)

3 - Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Dark Crusade which features 2 new playable factions (you don't need previous games to install)

4 - Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Soulstorm (scheduled for release in the spring of 2008 ) with 2 new factions
(you don't need previous games to install)

not bad for a game that was released in 2004 huh!!!

granted there are better games now, like supreme commander or even the c&c 3, but you should play at least warhammer 40,000 dawn of war, you will like it !!! :P

I'll second DoW, its a really great RTS, especially the MP (there's enough people who play, but its not a huge community). The only thing is its quite an offensive RTS. Its fairly similar to Starcraft like games, except you get recources by capturing locations and building generators. It may be very offensive, but its a deep, challening, and fairly macro intensive game.

The only old good school style RTS game that came out this gen that I could think of is C&C Tiberium Wars.

Go with Surpreme Commander. If that doesn't float your boat, go with DoW, the online based crowd isn't really that big anymore, and usually dies down around midnight CST. But, the expansions Winter Assualt and Dark Crusade have a fairly large player base online.

Also, you may want to try almost any of the C&C games. They are always great and still have a nice sized fan base for each of them.

Supcom perfectly fits your turtling tendencies. Bad choices for you would DoW, CoH and CnC 3, even though they are all great games, but they hardly allow defensive build ups.

Oh yeah, Supcom's demo is crap, so you really have nothing to judge the real game with sadly. They've made major changes through patches, optimization and otherwise.

The Stronghold games are crap. If you want a good game like that get knights of honor.
