Hi, I've mainly been looking for an HDTV for gaming and i have been looking around my local stores primarily JB HI-FI and online and have found this TV.

I will also be using this TV for watching blu-ray movies and DVD's but want to have the best picture i can for Xbox 360 games.

The Samsung UA55ES7500:

http://www.bigbrownbox.com.au/samsung-ua55es7500-series-7-55-inch-140cm-full-hd-3d-led-lcd-tv/

It's a 55 inch LED LCD Smart TV from Samsung, it's around 3700-4000 retail but i purchased it for 3200 via a online quote from JB-HI FI.

Anyway im wondering what people opinions are on this TV and has anyone else purchased one/ used it?

I am trying to find the best TV picture quality wise that it can produce for awesome gaming for the Xbox 360 which is as smooth as possible.

My couch is about 10 feet away from the TV itself or about 275cm to 3m.

There is a 14 day return policy so if i have any problems with the TV itself or don't like the picture or something i can exchange it for another TV.

The other TV i was looking at is this Sony KDL55HX850:

http://www.bigbrownbox.com.au/sony-bravia-kdl55hx850-55-inch-140cm-hx850-series-full-hd-led-lcd-3d-tv/

Looking at the both TV's at the store in JB HI-FI watching a Blu-Ray movie on the Samsung the picture looked much more Vibrant, with deeper blacks as well as richer colours. The Sony looked good as well but the picture just looked more natural without the colours being so vibrant and the blacks seemed weak/light.

Just wondering what people's opinions are on these TV's and did i pick the best HDTV for Gaming when money isn't an issue?

Looking at some of the New LG and Panasonic TV's instore i didn't see that they're pictures we're close to the quality of Samsung's.

And if anyone has any recommendations for TV's that would also be good.

Thanks.

The Panasonic plasmas provide the best image foe the dollar. The new 2012 line just came out--you could probably pick up a top end model from last year for pretty cheap.

No, plasma is better all around. I would go for a 2012 Panasonic ST50, outstanding performance for at the price of a mid range TV. If you have any doubts look at the reviews online and impressions on audio/video forums such as AVS. The ST50 will outperform the LCD/LEDs you listen and considering its less than half the price the choice is obvious.

If you're looking for top of the line for around the same price as the TVs you listed, the Panasonic VT50 is your best choice.

Do you think the TV i bought is a waste of money?

I've been playing games on this UA55ES7500 a bit and i'm not very pleased with the quality sad to say for the amount of money i have spent.

What is the full name of the ST50?

http://www.bigbrownbox.com.au/panasonic-viera-th-p50st50a-50-inch-127-cm-full-hd-plasma-tv/

Is this it?

Sorry i'm in Australia so the TV's exact code name might be different.

Ok so The ST50 looks good. It's around $1500 bucks which is half the price of this Samsung i bought.

What does the VT50 have over this panel? it's over double the ST50's price...

So why is Plasma better?

Everywhere i read it says LED/LCD is superior

The VT50 is just improved PQ, I don't know if the improvement is enough to justify double the price.

Plasma will have deeper blacks (which allows for greater contrast ratio), better colour accuracy, better handling of motion leaving a very natural picture.

LCD/LED often uses different types of up-scaling to try and improve PQ. Although LCD/LED can reach a deeper black, the picture remains inconsistent as there aren't enough backlights as there are pixels. Meaning an area which may have a very deep black will be washed out as a nearby backlight may have to be switched on to display a colour.

I can see that the picture remains inconsistent even on this high end LED LCD...

I see what your saying and it looks like i will be taking this back to store for an exchange...

i'll be saving myself about 2 grand wow!

Thanks very much for the advice NVID.

The UT50 is a step down from the ST50. For the price the ST50 is still the better choice.

Cool. Is the 2012 ST50 in stores yet?

I see it at dicksmith.com.au but i don't know if it's the 2011 or 2012 model. JB HI-FI doesn't seem to have it on they're website...

ST50 is the 2012 code, ST30 was the 2011 model. As the TV only started shipping about a month ago, not every store will have them yet.

Would any Samsung Plasma compare to the Panasonic ST50 in terms of picture quality?

Or is the ST50 still the benchmark...

I was looking at AVS forum and the ST50 seems like a great TV.

What about the Sharp Elite Pro can anyone give any opinions on this tv?

This is an LCD but it was rated the best TV of 2011.

Samsung doesn't seem to have anything to compare to the ST50

The Sharp Elite is a great display, easily one of the best LCDs out there, but it also has a price tag of $4,700 USD (60inch). As it is still limited by LCD, it manages to fall behind the 2008 Pioneer Elite Kuro. Although reviews of the Panasonic VT50 are rather limited, the display is said to rival the Sharp Elite.

Everywhereyou read it says LED/LCD is superior? What the hell have you been reading, every single review source (HDTVtest, flat panels, AVS, CNET, etc) will point out that plasma's have supeior picture quality because THEY DO. Generally plasmas have better: * Black levels * Contrast ratio * colour accuracy * colour saturation * motion processing * 3D effects * even lighting * No clouding * Better gamma BUT.. - not as bright as LED/LCD - Image retention can occur. So yes, I would like to say that your Samsung LED was a huge waste of money, I hope you can get your money back and buy the Panasonic ST50 as suggested above. I You can spend the extra $2000 on a really nice surround system, if you are willing to pay that much please ask the forum here for suggestions! :)

These LCD's with deep blacks have nearly a horrendous response time since they use VA panel technology, they are ok for movies but not for games.

The ST50 is still the best performance per dollar TV of 2012.. IR varies from panel to panel but its never permanent anyways.

Plasmas have way less ppi than led/LCD's, they are faster in response time but uglier for games, LCD/led is the way to go for graphics/gaming that the reason why gaming pc dont use plasmas as screens. If you get a plasma for gaming your overall games will have more jaggies (less sharp edges of graphics) beacause plasmas uses less pixels per inch, even if you lower the sharpness it won't look as nice as graphics in LCD technology, so if you want minimal best response get a plasma but you won't be happy because your game will look double pixelated that LCD/LED

What a load of crap... 1080p plasma will have exactly the same PPI/DPI as a 1080p LCD (Assuming the same screen size). The reason monitors aren't plasma is that plasmas can't currently be made under 40", and nobody wants a 40" monitor. And resolution and PPI mean little for an xbox360 which is 720p pretty much all the time...

This is almost completely false. Do you even know what PPI means? A 50-inch 1080p plasma has exactly the same PPI as a 50-inch 1080p LED. The difference is that the plasma has faster response time and more accurate colors. You can't beat a good plasma for gaming. Games will not look any more pixelated on a plasma than an LED/LCD. I have no idea where you got that idea, but it's a complete load of crap. Wow. They don't make plasmas under 40 inches.. that's why we don't have plasma monitors. You need to stop spewing this kind of uninformed crap.

I thought LED LCD was superior to Plasma for games?

MetalMX20
they pretty much are. a friend only buys plasma. i go over his house to watch football with him. and when the game is over we take turns playing black op 2 on his ps3. his tv is 60`. and when i watch him play i get slight motion sickness. and when i play i find the controls are little bit slower then over at my house when i play on my panasonic lcd. i asked if he changed the settings in the game and checked them myself because it was so much harder for to me to aim right on his tv. they were on the same default settings as mine.

Maybe he enabled some kind of motion enhancer like intelligent frame creation, that would explain the motion sickness and input lag.

Plasmas look better to me especially the 3D. Even for gaming. To me an $800 plasma is better for gaming than a $2500 dollar led. The Samsung and panasonic plasmas are the best. My 3D Samsung plasma looks incredible with the xbox360. The plasmas to me just look more clear. And the colors look richer. No lag what so ever or blur, I always notice blur on any led, and 3D plasma is a lot better than led because the plasma runs at 600hz.

I agree. I've never seen an LED that reproduced images as naturally as my Panny.

I didn't say anything about refresh rate, and the last sentence In the article says "However, one thing can be stated objectively, Plasma TVs definitely have better motion response than LCD TVs".

Plasmas do handle motion better, I'm just making sure your post doesn't confuse anyone into thinking you mean 600hz refresh rate.

Zomg! 600HZ!Â
