Close Combat: Invasion Normandy Close Combat 3: The Russian Front (which is currently being remade, called CC: Cross of Iron) Operation Flashpoint Delta Force 2 Company of Heroes COD series MOH series Can't remember the names of the old turn based war games. There were a lot of them, randing from the American Civil War to WW2. Some (Alpha Centurai) even went into the future.. but thats more of a civ style game than a wargame.
FPS- Operation Flashpoint was brilliantly done. RTS- Total War Series, for how 'massive' the wars can actually get. Very much like what you would see in the movies.
"CoH" is good, but I'd have to say the Talonsoft "Battleground" series was the best ("Battleground: Gettysburg", etc). "CoD2" is the best WWII FPS, but "MoH:Airborne" might steal some thunder. As for "BF2", news of "CoD4" for PC is just out, stating that Infinity Ward is moving the series into the 21st Century. Can't wait.
Comanche 3! Yeah it is way, way out of date. I think it had a max res of 800x600! But still its the best military game I have ever played ever. Comnche 4 was terrible. I wish they would make a 5th one and go back to the roots of #3 but that will never happen. The real Comanch RAH-66 was scrapped.
RTS game, just remember a patch because it can crash otherwise, but with the patch is brilliant, only other problem in requirements, 11GB of space and you need a very good garphics card
I'm with MOHAA series for best WWII FPS I'm for Joint Task Force (Modern warfair w/o futuristic elements) as a "Modern" RTS game BF2 for best "modern" FPS
