Hey guys,

So a while back I needed to find a good Playstation style wireless PC gamepad for my PC games.  I was a die-hard fan of the Logitech RumblePad 2, but they got old and needed replacing.  The obvious choice then was the very similar Logitech F710.  I bought a few of them and thought they were great, at first.  However, the F710 has a fatal flaw.  After gaming for a while, 30+ min, the controls totally spaz out and become unusable for a several minutes and it happens repeatedly making sustained gaming impossible.  I have 4 of these gamepads on two different systems, all have the same issue.  I discovered I wasn't alone as their is a huge thread on the Logitech forums about this issue and Logitech refuses to fix their product

So, since I don't like the Xbox style of gamepad, where do I turn for a high quality "Playstation like" gamepad for PC?  What are you guys using?

I use it to play FIFA and it's great. Works perfectly and the batteries last for months.

Funny u should mention Playstation.  I play FIFA on the PC and then go to PS3 tournaments and kick ass, lol...

If you have bluetooth i think you can use the Playstation controllers. Not 100% on that though.

LOL, I read F7 for some reason thinking it was the prior model. Please forgive me.

You sure it's not the game or some wireless interference? I game on them for hours (FIFA and other games) and no issues.

Yea, it is an ongoing issue for a lot of us F710 users...

http://forums.logitech.com/t5/PC-Gaming/Wireless-Gamepad-F710-losing-connection/td-p/511610

Very sad because otherwise I love the controllers.  I tried so many things to get them to work, but all have the issue and my old RumblePads never had any issues on the same PCs and location.

It's really hard to recommend controllers outside Xbox 360 products, since most Xinput seems to be phasing out the older DirectInput.

Yea, the Xbox ones are awesome quality and such, but I could just never get used to the layout.  I have been into PS systems sice '95 ;)  Stuck in my old ways I guess

That's really a shame because I love the F710. It's sturdy, heavy and feels good on the hands.

Fair enough. I can't stand the playstation controllers. I've owned PS1, PS3, PS3, and they never work well for first-person shooters, and most games for that matter. The placement of the trigger buttons are way off, and the dual sticks are too close. I also prefer a bigger, wider controller. Playing long sessions on a PS controller messed up my hands.

Use a ps3 controller with ds3tool works great for me, even with bluetooth just buy a supported bluetooth adapter, check on the forums. Some are a lot more finicky than others

Which adaptor do you use? I currently just keep it wired but it has been bothering me since the wire clutters up my desk

This but get some addon triggers as games are designed for xbox triggers granted alot of games will have alternate layout/let you change the controls but not all.

Get BetterDS3... You just need to have the Motioninjoy ds3tool drivers installed and then just run BetterDS3... has better support with automatically choosing a profile when you press the PS icon.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.  I think what I am going to do is try this first, since it is cheap and I found a couple of good reviews on it...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-PC-Wireless-Ergonomic-Gamepad-Controller-Pad-BLACK-TTX-Tech-Cordless-/271218460489?pt=US_Video_Game_Controllers&hash=item3f25e14749

If that ends up being junk, then I will try the PS3 controller and dongle option.

Thanks a bunch guys :)

Same here, while 360 controller seems solid in reliability, the feel just isn't the same old as the dualshock/ps. The controller just feel reminds me old ps1 rpg, gt, gta, etc., the layout feels right is just the handles are wayyy tooo small for human hands, besides that is perfect.

The Xbox Controller works natively with the majority of modern games, and the games even prompt you with Xbox button icons, so I'd get the wireless controller and the wireless adapter for your PC. It works surprisingly well.

Only a pleb would use a console controller to play a PC game. You can buy them at Scrubs-R-Us, n00b.SKaREO
Controllers are superior for third person action games and stealth games where analog walking helps minimize the sound of your footsteps. It's also better for flight games and any game with vehicles in general. The rumble is just a nice little bonus.

Yea Iv'e known about the PS3 controller and dongle setup for quite a while, but have always wondered if it would work well or not, being based on 3rd party software.  Does the PS3 gamepad to PC setup have just as consistent of connection as it does to the PS3?  I want to make sure it could be justfied to spend the money on as I would need 4.  Thanks

That's why we play Metal Gear Solid on a Playstation, not on a PC. You're doing it wrong.

If paying less for higher quality graphics and a wealth of user interface options is wrong, I don't want to be right.

They don't sync properly with stool and Bluetooth, it only works sometimes. Even on a ps3 it takes a few times to sync. I have no issues on my real ps3 controller.

People having issues with the connection of the Logitech wireless pad should check their Windows energy options and see if the "USB options/selective USB energy saving"  option is set to "deactivated"...

I hear you can use the Xbox 360 wireless usb adapter with different drivers to use to PS3 controllers this might be a good route to go http://www.play.com/Games/PC/4-/3299826/Microsoft-Xbox-360-Crossfire-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-for-Windows/Product.html if I have some time i'll look into confirming it but, i recommend checking it out if you can.

Hey. I had the same problem with Logitech wireless adapter, and i fixed it by pluging that adapter away from my motherboard on a usb extension cable. I'm guessing my graphic card or some other component was making too much inteference. Hope this helps. Let me know.

I would recommend a 360 controller. But since you don't like it I simply recommend hooking up a PS3 controller via bluetooth.

I did read your post but would still recommend the Xbox controller.

It's high quality and proven to work.  I used to have a logitech controller (this thing is probably 10 years old now) and it for some reason wasn't compatibly with some GFWL games, not an issue with the 360 controller.

I know you don't like the style but it'll take you what, maybe a couple hours to get used to the lay out?
