Bethesda Says Upcoming FPS Is Genre-Breaking

Bethesda is feeling pretty good about their new project. Enough so that they're willing to call it both a "genre-breaker" and a "killer app."

"We're not announcing the name yet, but it's a first-person shooter. That's a product that we believe is a genre-breaker, it's a real killer app," European managing director Sean Brennan told GamesIndustry.biz.

"From a quality perspective we're pitching that along the same lines as Fallout 3. We've kept it under lock and key, there are so many innovative features in there we don't want to reveal them too soon. We've spent significant resources developing the title. And that's a great example of our European work."

I doubt it, but I hope they'll continue to improve, one thing's for sure, Bethesda will always make games with glitches and bugs (I never had a problem with Fallout 3, but a lot of people do :().

As a long time FPS player, I didn't enjoy Oblivion and I didn't enjoy Fallout 3.

I hardly believe it'll be gamebreaking...

If it isn't, they'll probably complain that it's piracy's fault.

This should be very interesting nevertheless. Great to have developers like Bethesda with such ambitions to be very honest.

Bethesda is one of the few companies who rarely plays the "piracy" card.

We'll have to see what it is and what it does to make it a genre breaker. Many games have claimed to be breaking the typical molds in the past and a bast najority of those have proved to be nothing more then mimics of another game. So I'll reserve my judgement for a later date.

How about we get ES5 rather than a a potential fail fps. Was not a fan of fallout 3.

I think I'll be good, they got a lot of FPS experience from makingOblivion and Fallout 3. I hope theystart working onTES V only after they regain competence to make cRPGs again.

Wouldn't that be a heck of a rumor to start? But no one would believe it.

I think it will be nice to see what they will do. However if its genre breaking and that it will set a new standard for FPS games? We will see but its highly unlikely. Anyway Bethesda make great games never the less i just hope that the next elder scrolls they make will have some features like this:

*Climb mountains / trees and so on (would make a great feature for moders lateron also)

*Open world Morrowind style where each part have another feeling and look.

*Updated Oblvion combat system

*Updated Oblivion graphics (but not required)

*Open ending where the player have more "choice" in the story (Good / evil / neutral)

*Better AI (while hard to make i hope they will make some cool things here)

*And lots and lots of quests, even quests out in the middle of no mans land so that you will explore ;)...

I was thinking, could they make an MMORPG of Fallout? I mean interplay isn't right.

I thought that was a very stupid thing to say considering their track record, until I realized that Splash Damage is the developer, not Bethesda.
