I have an MSI K8N Neo4-F motherboard and recently I've noticed a high pitched sound coming from the chipset fan on the motherboard (the one located below the GPU). I actually didn't realize that this little fan was making so much racket until I slowed it down with a pen cap. My question to you good folks is: what do you recommend as a solution to fix the noisy fan? Are there any chipset fans that are totally silent? Thanks
I have the same board, and that has happened to me. I had to RMA it for other problems, so i dont have an answer. After the amount of trouble i have had with that board, i will never my MSI parts again.

What other problems did you experience with the board? Did you try removing the fan and cleaning it?
You could always buy a passive heatsink for the north/south bridge. Make sure you can remove it safely before you start ordering parts and popping things off though.
I know there are passive cooling sollutions (example). I imagine those could be hard to fit in there but I have no experience with those myself. I'm guessing the fan would be hard to replace with a quieter one because of it's size..
I've been looking and there aren't many third party replacements for chipset fans. Does anyone know why that is? Are chipset fans getting phased out or something? Are passive heatsinks actually capable of cooling as well as a fan?
