I'm trying to choose a processor for the new gaming computer I'm getting. I'm trying to choose between an Intel or an AMD processor, but I'm not sure. The AMD I'm looking at is an AMD Anthlon 64 Core Duo X2, model number 6400+. The Intel is a Core Duo E6850. Between these two, which should I go with? Any input is appreciated.

in the high end intel kicks amd to the curb so go with the e6850, or a wiser choice imo is the q6600

I'd go with the intel Q6600, although that's a slightly biased opinion :).

The Q6600 is a quad core, isn't it? What benefits does that have over the duo?

Yes, it is a slower clock speed but is very overclockable and it has two extra cores. This means it runs much faster than dual cores on multithreaded games and apps. Multithreading is becoming popular among developers and more and more are supporting it. All big games coming out in the future are multithreaded.

the guy above me is right. at absolute worst case, the quad-core acts like a dual-core of the same clock speed with a lot of extra cache. if the app takes advantage of multiple cores, you start to get extra gains. the bad side is that they generate a ton of extra heat and take more power relative to the dual-cores.

Although with the G0 it is has gotten much better, those chips are all around great.
