[QUOTE="wehertn"]http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/57100Daytona_178Well thats the only website i have seen where they say that so i think they just made a mistake! No, it's referred to as PC, 360, PS3 everywhere else. GameSpot, too.
That's a good question.
My first reaction is that no, the multiplayer component of Battlefield Bad Company 2 is not supposed to be Battlefield 3. However, along with 1943 and the enduring BF2 (I'll consider Heroes to garner a slightly different audience than these 3), it might be a "stop-gap" to Battlefield 3. Perhaps they are looking at a Battlefield 3 release after the next generation of consoles -- for some reason *gasp* ;)
I never played BFBC, how does the multiplayer compare to BF2? Some of the complaints I've heard (feel free to correct them) are that Bad Company has no jets or parachutes, no prone ability, smaller map and player size limits, hit top rank too easily, etc. You can't create custom squads, and there's no commander role similar to Battlefield 2? I'm assuming the latter means no UAVs, artillery, supply drops, etc? Bummer.
Who knows, it's all speculation. However, if BFBC2 is quite similar to BFBC, it doesn't seem it would quite be the next true evolution in the series that Battlefield 2 (and 2142) fans would be expecting. Still could be fun though and a fine contributor to a "stop-gap"...
To answer your questions; There are no jets or parachutes, but there are still helicopters. You can't go prone. This was probably the biggest complaint with people who play BC so I would hope DICE fixes this in the sequel. What they did instead is allow the player to kneel and kept parts of the foliage at kneeling level to hide in. It actually works, though prone would be better. If you end up playing a sniper, the camo works excellent within the foliage as there are numerous times an enemy player has come within a few feet of my location and not been able to see me. The maps are all about the same size as Karkand, some smaller, some a little larger, and the player limit is 24 due to the restrictions placed on the console. Yes, the ranking was too easy. I achieved max rank during the beta in about 2 weeks, the achieved it again just as fast when the full game was released. You can create custom squads by inviting people on your Live friends list, not by inviting people in game. Again, hopefully something DICE will correct for the PC. I honestly don't remember if there is a commander or not, but there is artillery in the form of an open arty piece that anyone can jump in. The range is limited however, usually to the first capture point. The bad thing about the open arty is that you get people killing each other to get into it. I think the basic cause for this is the younger crowd that plays consoles. If they don't change any of these issues in BC2, then no, it won't do well on the PC. I would think by now DICE knows its fan base and will address these problems. That's a good question.

^k, thanks man, my understanding isn't too far off then
Yeah, not sure how rampant it is in BFBC, but while the team killing with the "open arty" thing is too bad, you'll find it happening in BF2 as well for vehicles for example. Potentially the younger crowd playing consoles as you mentioned might make it worse, but unfortunately you'll never get completely away from that type of behavior.
