i have a decent computer with these specs:
cpu-3 ghz pentium 4
gpu - 7900gs overclock
ram - 1 gb
os- windows xp

i'm trying to run bioshock and everytime i walk 3 or 4 steps the game freezes for about 6 seconds! it's insane! at the beginning of the game i could play reasonably but now the game freezes even when i try to hack a machine! Every time a level is loading i turn on my psp and play 5 minutes of lumines... loool i already tried to put every graphics settings on low or disabled at a 1024x720 resolution and this still happens... do u think it's because of my cpu? i think this insane freezing didn't happen when i played the demo...

yes but even with minimal specs i should be able to run it with low frame rate, and that isn't the case. if i stop walking the frame rate is fine (about 25-45 fps).It seemslike the computer is loading the level and get crushed... the same happened to FEAR because of the textures remember? but the textures in this game aren't that big...

do you have anything running in the background that may be stealing from your CPU? Try turing everything on low and see if it runs. Then start turning things up until you find a happy medium.

I'd say it's your background apps or viruses giving you a hard time. My current PC is a sorry looking rig: Athlon 64 4000+ @ 2.7 GHZ, 2mb 400 mhz RAM, and an overclocked Radeon X1600 @ 512 mb. I played the demo on medium-high settings at about 30 fps, but f I were to minimize it I'd sure as heck get not only no freezing every 6 seconds, but playing would be smooth as silk. It's not your hardware man.

Yeah dude. I'm thinking it's either drivers or some process in the background that's throwing a wrench into the works. That hardware should be sufficient to at least run the game without crashing. $20 says if you reinstalled windows and got all the most current drivers, you'd be fine.

Your CPU and GFX card should be fine to run it, but your RAM is low. Make sure you don't have anything else hogging memory when you run the game, and maybe increase the size of your pagefile so it can use that instead when it needs a bit of extra memory.

I have an Athlon XP 3000+ (2.2GHz), X1650 Pro 512MB, 2GB RAM, and can run it smoothly at 1280x1024 with some reduced settings, or high at 1024x768 with a playable framerate.

Nope. I do too. Check my previous post on how that's working out.

Sounds like your virus software is messing with your loading/playing. I know that at one point SupCom was affected by my AV software and load times were about 3-4mins compared to 5secs after it was turned off.

I'm not sure it's his virus software. I have a similar PC and i had a freezing problem. But it turns out it wasnt Norton it was my diskdefrag software which kept accessing the hard disk. Once that was taken care of i could play bioshock fine even with bittorrent and Norton doing their things in the background.

Yeah, I may have sounded too certain, but he can atleast try turning off his AV software. Diskdefrag will help with load times, but I don't think 5mins seraching for files is normal unless you have a terabyte of space.
