We have already had a poll on the game to decide what people though of it - The majority of voters said it was very good.
I don't think we need to go through the complaints again
I think you should get it and see for yourself. Tell me how it goes!!
Is it the creepy kind of scary or "BOO!" kind of scary?pink_floyd123
It is more tense than scary, though there are a couple of BOO moments.
It looks pretty at least. Some nice moments, but once you know that you won't die...
*yawn* but it has a nice story though...if you've not played System Shock 2.

Well fortunately this fellow is buying it late and there is a patch that can remove the Chambers so its not a problem :)
BioShock is okay, but it is a recycled version of System Shock 2 (with even the same story), only most of the best elements of System Shock 2 have been dumbed down or trivialised.

I don't think the game was bad, but it was overrated by most people and some sites.

If BL replies to this then prepare for a massive derailing of the thread.
It was entertaining the first time. Right now, it's a borefest everytime I read through the same debate over and over again.
Pretty sure BL is also pretty annoyed, too.

I've been very objective and reasonable this time! The game is a solid 7/10, and there are some good things to it. There's also lots of terrible things! It is to System Shock 1 and 2 as Fallout 3 will be to Fallout 1 and 2. That doesn't make it awful, judging on its own merits, but for anyone expecting a spiritual successor to System Shock 2, and finding a shallow, recycled remake, it was a huge disappointment.
And I don't see why the dissentients should be silenced simply because most people haven't played System Shock 2.

As I have already stated we have settled this debate with JF Sebastian guy's poll.
Now we wait for the sequel..

Exactly. It's more of the "OMG what is my cell phone bill going to be this month" kind of scary.

For some people that would quite frightening and it would change their lives.
There's a demo............X360PS3AMD05
It is probably best just to get the game and be immersed entirely without the demo.
Also, it is annoying how the demo doesn't have a save function.
Great game, really mixes up the bland FPS formula. Not really a RPG, kinda more like an action adventure like zelda of metroid prime where you get upgrades and weapons. Those are my favorites. There are cool weapons and even better ways to kill enemies than shoot them.
The emenies are repetative, but the game is more about exploring and finding objectives than killing strictly.
Get it now!! how much is it anyway?

I didn't really think it was scary at all, after you take down your first big daddy, you are golden, the rest are easier.
I thought Bioshock was actually quite good, better than a 7/10 for sure. I guess those who are nostalgic about SS2 are going to hate it, but I think most would enjoy it. It was definitely overrated by the media, but it's more than just a mediocre game.BlueBirdTS
7/10 is better than mediocre in my book, seems about right to me for BioShock. Although, I potentially could rate it slightly higher -- it was good, just not great, not as good as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for example. Worth playing definitely.
However, was it overrated by the media? There's no doubt in my mind.
BioShock is okay, but it is a recycled version of System Shock 2 (with even the same story), only most of the best elements of System Shock 2 have been dumbed down or trivialised.
Its best features:
- Excellent (albeit completely unoriginal and infuriating if you've ever played SS2) story
- Beautiful visuals
- Mostly unique world (as a concept)
- Sander Cohen
- It has lots of cool secondary elements besides gunplay
Its worst features:
- Most of these features are extremely shallow and simple
- It's ludicrously easy (but you will be lucky enough to be able to turn vitachambers off on your first play), but it will still be very easy
- Gunplay is extremely mediocre
- Atmosphere is half baked
- As good as the story is, all of the characters but one (Sander Cohen) are relatively bland, and their writing is less than great
- It's not System Shock 2
If you have never played System Shock 2, I would implore you to find yourself a copy - it is the superior game in every concievable way. Whether you've played SS2 or not, BioShock is a fairly good game - but it's not without an extremely long list of flaws, and I find most of the praise it gets largely undeserving and knee-jerk.fatshodan
I'd agree with a majority of what shodan said. I might add that I would not see any replay value in this game though. I liked it a lot, but I think after beating it, it will continue to just collect dust.
Looking back, what is your perspective on the game? I'm trying to decide whether or not to get it...what are your biggest complaints?pink_floyd123
I bought it upon release, played it, beat it, and I still have it. I thought it was a great game, especially when you turn up the difficulty, it makes the game longer. The only complaint I have is it was to short, well, maybe it wasn't to short, I just wanted more, but turning up the difficulty helps. Anyway, I think its a great game and if you haven't tried it yet, I'd say go get it.
It's got a great campaign and storyline. Great gameplay, great graphics, uhhh, not much wrong with it.
Only problem I can think of is the boredom/replay factor cuz idk how many times u can play it over(prob 2 for each ending) and there's no multiplay.
Bioshock is just a terrible shooter. There are a few things about it that other shooters could take inspiration from, like the somewhat interesting setting and atmosphere. But aside from that, Bioshock is the perfect example of what a shooter is not supposed to be i.e., utterly unchallenging gameplay, horribly clunky guns, no variety in enemies, annoying minigames etc.
Comparisons to SS2 are not even necessary to recognize that Bioshock is a pile of crap.
It is a boring game those were my thoughts when I went through the first few levels, 10 months later I still haven't gotten past the point were I stopped due to the massive boredom.
So my view of the game hasn't changed.
