Black Ops - Yay or Nay?

I bought this game day one as a business expense and have maybe put 3 hours into it. The singleplayer is pretty much the same thing as always, so I got my fill of it after one hour of play, I don't think I even need to play the rest to experience what the game has to offer. The famous multiplayer is still on the buggy side, so I don't know if I can adequately judge it yet, but I will say that the gameplay feels more like luck, and less about skill. I've had people spawn directly in front of me, and directly behind me. I haven't tried any of the round-based modes yet, but the ever-popular DM and TDM modes really lack any rhyme or reason. It surprises me that people find the multiplayer so enjoyable, especially since it does everything wrong that CS did right over a decade ago. And what's with the server browser? Did they not spend any time making this port? How hard is it to get something as simple as a server browser integrated properly?

My vote currently: Nay. It's possible I will find joy in the Nazi Zombies mode, but it takes me too long to get into a game, so long that I don't even want to play it. Also, can someone tell me what they think the best MP mode is? Thanks

Yay. It's fast, fun, and mindless. As a whole, I've had far more fun with it than any shooter this year other than possibly Arrowhead. I can see myself playing this one a ton.

I played the single player and enjoyed it. It is the best in the series. The multiplayer is pretty much the same thing as the last 3 games except more features and it's more balanced. Overall, I think it's the best in the series. But I didn't buy it, I just borrowed my friends steam account. I think it's overpriced since the campaign is like 5 hours long and Call of Duty mutliaplayer usually keeps me entertained for like 2 hours before I call it quits permanently. I prefer Quakeizle III & 4. I'll probably pick it up when it's cheap.

Just because it's "Call of Duty" people like to join in and say it's a bad game.. the game is buggy, unbalanced, just like another COD game. Well, it IS another COD game and the single-player campaign is much better than the crappy MW2 one. I would even go as far as saying it's better than COD4's campaign and COD4 had a pretty good campaign. The multiplayer is really fun and not the camping, noob-tubing, hacked-up MW2 MP. Elann2008

Let me stop you right there. Black Ops already has a reputation for wallhackers. And you think 5 hour rehashed campaigns are actually "good"? Obviously we have completely different standards.

The negative reviews from players is mostly about the technical bits which are going to be patched up with a second patch.

This is the first CoD to take place in the Cold War era, so it's definitely interesting to play.

The New patch just came out. It did not fix any of my issues. It made them worse actually. I hate this game.

I've only seen one hacker in my time in Black Ops, and he was promptly kicked from the server. The campaign is nothing special, I will give you that, but I like playing them anyway because I like knowing about that kind of stuff. Makes for good conversation starters later on. The reason I enjoy the BO MP though is because people finally discovered that bullets are lethal. I see almost no tubing, less grenade spam, less launcher spam, and I am seeing people actually using different guns rather than just the same few weapons over and over again. I'm not a FFA/TDM player, and I would imagine the spawns are horrendous in those modes, but they are quite alright in most of the other game modes. I've had a few streaks where I spawned into death, but it happens, and I get over it quick. theafiguy

What modes do you recommend? I'll try them right now.

I would personally recommend Domination right now, the maps are very well suited to it, save for one or two, and the spawn system isn't entirely broken in it. Headquarters and Sabotage would be my next two suggestions underneath that, since they are the two that involve a lot of movement. Demolition would be right under that, but there's a lot of nade spam since it's pretty much destroy point A & B.

I'm not much of an S&D player in CoD, but I would imagine it would be nice.

Best cod game since cod 2 imo.

Just one yay? More like 18 yays :lol: stupid Gamespot glitch. Anyway, singleplayer is good. Story makes more sense than mw2. But its more simplstic. Eg: why no rc car kills in singleplayer? Or Grim reaper rocket launcher? Atleast it has few enemies unlike waw that was filled with enemies. Honestly in most parts i felt like i was missing the scripted events, so its not as well cinematic scripted as mw2, also bugged up once. Multiplayer? Some bugs here and there, but overall it has been fun. Its more about skill on how you use the weapons rather who has the higher level guns and shoots in full auto. Better balanced. Customization is also crazy. Zombies are also vastly improved than last time. One thing though, second day i had the game i could not connect to steam like some other users around that time. So i choose to play combat training and suprisingly i had to be online in order to play with bots? Seriously, just how stupid is that and why do it?dakan45

There is a grim reaper in several of the SP missions.

Also the you need to be online to play with bots is that you rank up when you do it, but seperately, so you can only use the guns etc. you unlock in combat training in combat training

Nay looks no different to the last two games and they were getting boring to me.

This is only the second game to use this version of the IW 3.0 engine. So...yea.

I'm loving the multiplayer. So many different gun combinations and loadouts to play with, and if you play hardcore mode, all of them are effective and fun. You can still experiment a lot in regular mode as well, but there are certain weapons that seem to be a little overpowering in normal mode. I typically play HQ because that's where most of the experience is, but all the game modes are fun. If you like CS, try search and destroy mode.. it's almost the same thing. TDM is good if you wanna relax a little bit, and HQ, Domination and Demolition are great to run around in.

Zombie mode is great as well. If you don't finish the SP, you can use a cheat code to unlock the other two zombie maps.. "Five" is fantastic, and it's fun to play when we need a break from competitive multiplayer.

Treyarch still needs to work out numerous issues with the game, that's for sure. The spawn system is broken - it was patched on 360 and PS3 last week, so maybe we'll get that trickled down to us eventually. Performance is awful for such an ugly looking game. I have a custom config and a lot of settings turned down.. game looks awful but I still get 80-125 fps usually. If I start turning up the graphics detail, the game starts feeling really sluggish.

Despite the issues, I'm still enjoying it immensely - 10 levels away from my 4th prestige :)

i think everyones full of $hit, the same ppl saying treyarch sucks are saying treyarchs better and vice versa, opinions are always changing, ppl saying mw2 sucks just to go against the crowd of ppl buying it, and i dont care what anyone says , blackops will never ever top a moder warfare story line, and mw2 storyline might not have made sence because it was a cliffhanger, supposed to run on into 3, WaW was the one who let that huge hack into the game where you were under the level, but the same ppl compalining about it say treyarch fixes bugs better lol i give up on all this crap, but i will not buy black ops because SCREW ACTIVSION for effin over jason and vince and the call of duty brand so NAH

If there's something like MW2s lobby / party, tell me where it is. I have a friend who hates not being able to play with all his friends on the same team, and he really wants the party system.
