Blizzard VS Relic

Hello Gamespot forum members, so we got Blizzard RTS games VS Relic RTS games. This is the final showdown. Basically, which one do you prefer. :D

Blizzard RTS games include,

* Starcraft series
* Warcraft series

VS

Relic RTS games, which include,

* Dawn of War series
* Company of Heroes series
* Homeworld series

As for me, I prefer Relic, cause I am not a big fan of Diablo or Warcraft. Even though Blizzard customer support is one of the best(which makes their games last longer.) So to me, the only Blizzard RTS game I play is Starcraft. As for Relic, I love Dawn of War series, I got Dark Crusade, which is AWESOME!!!!!!. COH is damn good, it's expansion pack is going to be off the hook. I heard rumors DOW 2 is already in devlopment.

They are both great companies..

What really grinds me raw about Relic becuase I tend to like their games a bit more is their multiplayer is absolute crap.. It gives you hardly any game play chocies and a limited amount of maps.. Starcraft community alone outnumbers all of their communities already..

This gets worse with the fact that Dawn of War for isntance are top vs bottom massive battles.. Which isn't anything wrong about it, but watching the same animations thousands of times gets boring... The resource system for especially Dawn of War is limited due to the fact to be fair it has to be symeterical meaning no twisted level designs like system unrest where the game can fundmentally change depending on where yoru spot is by enviroment alone..

I am by no means ripping on Relic I tend to playt heir games more then Blizzards, BUT they just squander so much potential they have in numerous places at times.. Dawn of War being the most recent blunder that could have made AAA if it had a meaningful multiplayer.. Same goes for homeworld where absolutly NO one plays on line.

That is a tough question.

Both Blizzard and Relic have great RTS games. But I'm going to go with Relic, even though Blizzard is one of my favorite developers.

If Relic keeps making great RTS games like Dawn of War, Company of Heroes, and Homeworld, they could be the next Blizzard in the RTS genre. IMO.

But one thing Relic needs to improve on is the Multiplayer, the singleplayer is great, but the multiplayer isn't.

Seeing as blizzard havent made any other games except WoW for a LONG time, its got to be relic besides dawn of war and CoH just own the RTS.

WoW is fun though i must admit.

Both companies released outstanding titles, but especially if you limit the choice to the RTS games (and thus discount the Diablo Series) my answer is obvious:

RELIC!

DoW alone is more fun to me than any of the Blizzard RTS games. Add CoH to that (didn't play Homeworld) and my choice is clear.

for me nothing beats, starcraft in multiplayer and Warcraft 3 in singleplayer

The only blizzard has got running for itself RTS-wise is starcraft which i played a lot in ladder matches, WC3 is total crap, 90 pop cap my ass.

Relic on the other has a lot more diversity, i love homeworld 1, cataclysm and 2, DOW especially dark crusade is top notch, COH is really well put together. Relic unlike Blizzard innovates noth in gameplay AND TECHNOLOGY. They push the boundaries of what was tought possible.

Relic is the better RTS developer

Though Blizzard could live on WoW for a good 10 more years, and that time you'll probably have WoD for diablo (the logical evolution).

Warcraft is great game,and the reason why u cant build 8536 units is because its more focused on skill,micromanagment and macromanagment,than just massing units and putting them to queue.

Than warcraft have awesome custom made maps&mods-which are sometimes DIFFERENT genre.There are maps that include racing(yeah driving cars,something like mario cart),snake-like games,even mmorgp alike games,old school arcade-like games and even CHESS!Yeah real chess with AI and multiplayer that is bether than most chess games i played.

Than not forget Awesome game optimization which can run great on cheap machines and low internet connection,great and unmached multiplayer,great support,great singleplayer,great tournaments,incredible musicand ONE OF THE BEST cinematics ever...

Dont forget one of the most user-friendly and still one of most complex World Editors that can be used to create maps and modsin even different genre (as i said there are allready chess,racing,paintball,rpg,..maps)

Thats hell a lot of things for one strategy game that is just 2 cd's.

Yeah i forgot to mention that there are singleplayer and multiplayer maps for Warcraft 3 in which u can have literally unlimited numbers of units.Or sometimes there are maps where u have just 1 hero who is surviving waves ofmillions of units.Sometimes there are so many units on screen,that PC-s that arent good enough stops responding or smthing like that.Thats because whole screen is filled with troops and special effects. :D

So if someone like to mass army and stuff like that-there are maps for that

If someone dont like Elves and mystical beings used in warcraft-there are maps and mods where u use Modern robots or ww2 tanks.

There are maps where u fight with your favourite heroes like Spiderman,X-man,Anime Characters(dragonball,naruto,akira..)

There are even porn maps -.-

Warcraft 3 is one of largest modding communities which equals==== Thousands and thousands hours of fun and joy

Such a comparison will be reduced in my book to Starcraft and Warcraft vs. Homeworld and Company of Heroes, as I haven't played any RTS belonging to a different franchise owned by either Blizzard (because there's none) or Relic.

While I definitely appreciate Blizzard for their commitment to both Warcraft and Starcraft, as well as for delivering top-noch content that's easy to pick up and play for a long time, I'll have to go with Relic because they managed time and time again to revolutionize a whole lot of concepts with both Homeworld and Company of Heroes. Homeworld is pretty unique to date, with some games having tried and failed to emulate it, and the jury is still out for deciding whether any Company of Heroes clones, should they appear at all, score a bigger success than the original. Most of all though, I voted for Relic because both of their RTS's hold some of the most memorable moments I've ever experienced in a strategy game, while most of my recollections of both Starcraft and Warcraft are blurry at best.

I miss Westwood, Red Alert was a masterpiece.

Relic games might be innovative but they fail to do their job for me. That is provide hours worth of RTS fun. I found myself dozing off trying to play DoW online. Company of Heroes was just a WW2 version of DoW and I felt the same way about it. Acctually come to think of it Blizzard is the only company that has made RTS games that I acctually play. I really dislike the genre but there is something about the Blizzard RTS gamesthat is really fun to me.

I realy prefer Blizzard cuz i hate Warhammerandprefer Starcraft and Warcraft on COH by a lot.

The problem with Blizzard is that they don't realy like to make games...we they should do a lot more....

I found heroes in warcraft 3 to more interesting and fun than trying to control positions on a map. Maybe I was wrong to question the revolutionaryness of relic but I've played blizzard RTS's for combined a few thousand hours and relics games for maybe 10 before I got tired of them.

Also, how many people are playing CoH online right now maybe 1000? how many are playing warcraft 3..at least 100,000 on all the servers.
