Hello all you fanboys and haters!

It's time for a little vote. I want to know who you think is the best PC game developer today. I know there are plenty of other game developers out there that are very good but none of them can compare to Blizzard and Valve. These two companies are the juggernauts of the gaming industry.

Blizzard introduced many classic games that define their genre. After World of Warcraft, Blizzard got so big, it dwarfed even the biggest publisher in the industry, Activision. Today they are a publicly traded company on the stock market. Combined with Activision, it would appear as though they might be unstoppable, paving the road to the future of PC gaming.

Valve on the other hand is a privately owned company that publishes many of their own games and is opening the door for indie developers to make their dreams come true. Valve owner, Gabe Newell, is known as the gaming industry's first billionaire. Valve introduced many blockbuster titles such as Half Life, Counter-Strike, Team Fortress and Portal. In early 2000, Steam was born, and today has become one of the largest online distributors of video games. Well, he must be doing something right!

In your opinion, which of these two game developers are the best?

Valve, it's not even a competition. Valve provides options that are good for consumers. Blizzard on the other hand provide options that are good for themselves.

both are overrated.

Valve has HL1 and have kept CS going. Portal is ok. TF2 and HL2 are overrated garbage. Rest of the games are not even worth mentioning.

Blizzard has been downhill since release of Cataclysm. Diablo 3 was a failure.

Valve:

Best single-player FPS

Best Competetive Multiplayer FPS

Best Cooperative Multiplayer FPS

Best Puzzle game

Blizzard:

Best MMO

Best RTS

Best...uh... whatever Diablo is considered.

Depends on your tastes really.

Jakes you're an idiot. Personally I love both. They both provide different types of games so it's really hard to say what is better. Someone who likes fps's is going to like valve more, someone who is going to like rts's/mmo's is going to like blizzard more. I love all the genres really so I have them as tied. I loved the half life series, CS, Left for dead, Portal 1 and 2. All great games. For blizzard I love their rts's starcraft, starcraft 2, Diablo series. ^_^

Speaking strictly about games, it's Valve for me. I respect the type of games Blizzard makes, but outside of Starcraft + Warcraft there isn't much there for me. And I'd still prefer to have HL, Portal, and Counter-Strike over those.

You can't compare anything to Counter-Strike, it's just too good a game and really sits in its own class of awesome. But TF2 has its own merits, I wouldn't say it is garbage. Valve redefined the style of FPS shooters with TF2, and also showed everyone how to pull off the free to play model. It's a more casual pub shooter, and to be honest, the genre really needed a shooter that was less "serious business" and more just "shoot the sh--" with your online buddies. Blizzard's games went down hill after Warcraft III in my opinion. Some might say they did the right thing by expanding the PC gaming market to more casual players and making a ton of money in the process. I never got into WoW myself, I never found the fun of playing that game. I was too busy playing Counter-Strike to be bothered playing anything else. Like I said, when you compare games to Counter-Strike, everything seems like a sh-- game.

Going solely off of games and not business practices/services, Blizzard takes it by a mile. I've loved pretty much every Blizzard game and on Valve's side I haven't really liked anything other than Portal.

Valve no question. I have lost faith in Blizzard over the years and the final nail in the coffin was the absolute disappointment that is Daiblo 3.

Blizzard, no contest. Valve only has DOTA and Counter Strike, while Blizzard is better just because of SC2. Aside from Steam, I don't understand where all the Valve love comes from.

In my opinion, Blizzard makes good games. Valve mostly makes bad games, but has excellent support for their games. And encourage modders, which is always a plus.

Blizzard games I liked: Warcraft 2+3, WoW+TBC, Diablo 1+2, Starcraft 1+2
Blizard games I disliked: Diablo 3, Wotlk+Cata

Valve games I liked: Half Life 1, Team Fortress 2 initially
Valve games I am indifferent to: Half Life 2
Valve games I disliked: Portal, Left for Dead 2, Team Fortress 2 later on, Half Life 2: Epsiode 1+2
Valve games I am considering having removed from my Steam Library: Portal 2

In my opinion, this is too easy. Valve, hands down. Not only do I enjoy their games more, but I'm a Steam junkie. They make great games, provide excellent service, and treat their customers right.

They are both overrated, but if I had to pick one its Valve. Imo Blizzard's games went downhill after Wrath of the Lich King, and it doesn't seem that they'll be coming back to their prime

Blizzard = Wow-lookalike games for $60+ with outdated graphics. As long as I see nerds in public, I would hear them talk about DPS and HP and HELL... yeah.. that.

Valve= free games.

I think they're both outstanding companies and two of a very few developers that have an almost perfect track record for delivering quality games.

Therefore, I did not vote.

The Blizzard hate in this thread is hilarious. Blizzard is the only reason the PC gaming platform matters. When's the last time Valve released a relevant game? Blizzard hasmaintained over 10 million subs with an 8 year old game. Most games nowadays can't even hold the average gamers attention for a month or two.

Blizzard is hands down, the best gaming developer in the business. Not even close.

Valve by a mile. Their games all reach a very high standard. Blizzard is playing a dangerous game with all this subscription stuff, real money in games. Recently, I thought half of Starcraft 2 was very good but ran out of steam. Diablo 3 is solid but deeply conservative and entirely lacking in variation. How did this game take so long to make?

It's Valve for me all the way. Ten years ago it would have easily been Blizzard these days Blizzard puts profits before gamers and it shows in their recent titles. Constant internet connection to play Diablo 3, a single player game? Splitting Starcraft 2 into 3 seperate games essentially making everyone pay $180 for a single game? Even Steam lets me play my games without having to connect to the internet and it's an online distribution service and Valve is always having sales that let me play more games than I could otherwise. No contest.

For me it's core game first, support/ethics second but clearly quite a few PC gamers care more about support/ethics than the actual game they're playing, or at least so it seems. Within the last decade all Valve really has to its name as far as I'm concerned is Half Life 2, Portal 2, and Day of Defeat, the rest of its games have issues such as TF2 aka spam, CSS aka a reskin of a 1999 game with worse netcode, L4D1+2 have good art direction and interesting AI but they suffer the same issues as low budget survival games(meat train tactics), as far as MOBA go I prefer Bloodline Champions although we'll see how DOTA 2 is after release when there are millions of players to truly test it and of course Half Life 3 as a universal rule must never be released. Blizzard on the other hand has Warcraft 3 from which came the MOBA genre and DOTA, World of Warcraft which popularized theme park MMORPGs and did MMORPGs in a way no game had done before, Starcraft II poster boy of esports, Diablo III which needs a lot of patching, and Titan which is really just another WoW expansion.
