The only complaint I have is that I know it's going to end eventually.

well put. why im doing all three races/classes :p
I've heard really good things, but I'm finding it difficult to bring myself to purchase yet another fantasy RPG game. I've really grown to distaste fantasy games because they've become so generic and unimaginative.Swiftstrike5
do yourself a favor and get this game, pretty unique storyline, great dialogue, combat is done flawlessly, sweet characters like mass effect,, etc
I am holding off on getting it until christmas. With all the reviews and hype I'm reading about this game... I envision dying from euphoria overdose or sleep deprivation when I FINALLY boot that baby up.F1_2004lol... Indeed. Very eager for Dragon Age:O.

i just opended a six pack of monster. i am gtg lol
way too early for this kind of thread. until now I haven't seen anyone who actually finished the game.
calling a game the greatest after few hours of gameplay...maybe I'm just not hip enough to do this kind of thing.
but this one is not the first, there was already a thread claiming DA:O the greatest of all time around the release date.
I reckon when ME 2 is released, there will be some "the greatest RPG ever" threads for it as well.
I'm not that far in at all, but it seems like a very solid game. The only surprising thing is the graphics look no better than NWN2 except maybe the character actions themselves. I'm no graphics whore by any means, but the landscapes are pretty bad. Of course, this makes the game more accessible for those with weaker machines which may have been the developers intent.

it's not by intent. DA:O was announced at the year as NWN2. it's been in development for a long time. and so, the graphic is of course comparable to that of NWN2.

This. I've watched the first 20-30 mins of the game and couldn't see anything that hasn't been done in this genre before.

The storyline isn't remotely unique, imo - it's a fairly standard "orcs are invading and we need an army" story so far (about 20 hours in).
If you're sick of generic fantasy games, you might want to give DA: Origins a miss. You'd have to really struggle to find a new or imaginative idea anywhere in the game so far - but as far as generic fantasy goes, it's quite a good RPG.
I prefer more creative and offbeat RPGs, so I wouldn't call Dragon Age: Origins great, but surprisingly enough it's certainly deeper than anything Bioware have made in a long time.
Finally got it today. Just completed my origin story (playing as a human noble / rogue), after about 2 hours. Wouldn't say I'm 'blown away' by it but so far really impressed, as a massive Baldur's Gate fan this is exactly my kind of game. Camera controls took a bit of getting used to but once I started using the keyboard more than the mouse things got less hectic. Been playing mostly with the tactical view but I love that you can zoom in for a closer perspective.
I think the graphics are pretty decent, at least I don't see what some people have been whining so much about. They are not top-of-the-line but they're not bad by any means. Area design is really nice I think. The game set my visual options to all low/medium and 800x600 resolution (Not sure why. I have a 512mb Radeon HD4670 graphics card which I didn't think was that crummy.) but I put them up to 1240x768 and all medium/high and it runs smooth as you like.
Over the top blood effects are a bit ridiculous, and it is weird that your PC is the only character who's mute. Didn't seem as odd in games like Fallout 3 and Oblivion but I guess that's because you didn't see your character during conversations in those games.
Not found it much of a challenge yet but then I've only been hacking up grunts so far. I'm sure I'll meet something big soon that will be redecorating things with my blood.
I want to play more but I'm all sleepy :( Think tomorrow is going to be a long day tho.
I'd say I'm about 17 hours in. A couple hours being in the two elf origins, city elf and dalish elf. My main is a mage/shapeshifter. I love it now that I can actually do real damage.

Cool, thanks for that mini-review.Honestly, I have despised every game that Bioware has made since Baldur's Gate 2. I can heatrily say this is the best RPG of the past 10 years! Thank you Bioware!
I've never played any of Bioware's games before though I've heard of it and to me, I'm blown away by this game.. I'm about 12 hours into the game and I'm still at the starting.. Doing sidequests, earning money, leveling up, etc. I feel that DAO is seriously very, very good.. Now I'm gonna buy Mass Effect 2 even though I've not played Mass Effect 1 because Bioware would make ME2 to be very interesting... By the way, I don't know why others are criticising this game other than the character animations to be a little stiff.. But it doesn't matter to me, as long as I enjoy the game I don't really care about what other people think.. So if a troll passes by we shold just ignore it.

Same here :) I've played a lot of RPGs and have to say that this one was probably the most entertaining RPG I've played. BioWare rised up in my eyes.

Maybe not. But when a character is lying down gasping his last breath, and you're having one last serious, sad-moments conversation with them, while more blood than their body could ever hold is pooling underneath them quicker than if you poured it out a bucket, it kind of makes the moment seem a bit goofy.
Been caning through this game all day. Got over the initial confusion I had with the controls and once I got into the Ostagar mission my love for this game really started to heat up. The combat is great fun when you've got spells and abilities going all over the place. Alistair is funny. The dog is random and cute. My own character makes me laugh because everyone thinks he's so wonderful but he always looks really gormless. I am loving the story progression (counted four moments so far that made me sad, shocked or angry which is pretty good going for a game) and think this game has some of the best dialogue choices I've played, I really like having to think hard about what I want to say.
