Hi, I was playing a game when suddenly my pc switched off and i could see massive blue sparks inside the case, i turned it off at the power and turned it on again and the blue sparks came back but my pc didn't come on, is my psu dead?

its an 800W Hi-Power http://www.ebuyer.com/product/135197

i've only had it just under a year, could it be something else or is it definetly dead?

If your toilet exlpodes is it dead? ;) Sorry couldnt help myself, but have you checked all cables because it sounds like a shortcircuit. Cables can catch fire, it happned once in a really old PC i had alongtime ago, betw the multisocket MBATX cable and the MBatx conector. To be honest iv'e never hear of that PSU before, but low cost hi wattage PSU's isn't what i recomend. Shortciruit fuse does most PSU's have.

Your mobo is almost certainly fried, you probably fried other components as well. I had a similar thing happen to me that killed the mobo and the HDD but nothing else luckily. Before you buy anything new, start by taking one component at a time to another PC and testing each one for signs of life.

Yes Definitely get a Corsair PSU since they are pretty much ONE of the best PSUs you can get. Oh and Corsair power supplies are actually made by Seasonic which explains their stability, efficiency, and reliability. However, there are also many other Great Power Supply brands on the market as well such as Cooler Master, OCZ, PC Power and Cooling, Silverstone, Antec, Thermaltake etc.

Also, the motherboard is probably dead unless your power supply had over-voltage protection.

I would definately replace your psu to be on the safe side, I wouldn't be happy using it again even if it did start working again.
