They need to get a $150 BR player on the market asap. BDs need to come down about $10 dollars as well. I'm not really sure what the point is of keeping the prices so high at this point.

Not surprising. Blu-ray discs are still way to expensive for what you get. I dont know how they havent realized that yet. Who really wants robo cop in HD for $30? Not me. Sony needs to stop fumbling their HD media and drop the price. I havent bought a blu-ray movie in a year because of the price.

Blu-ray discs have very reasonable prices online, but I always shake my head when I see $40 price tags in stores lol.

The United States is in the midst of a recesion, gas and grocery prices are sky high right now. I'm a film geek with a BR player and I'm not buying movies of any sort right now DVD or BR.

I just don't think most people care that much about High Def movies...I mean the regular DVD's...on a decent DVD player and on a descent HDTV look pretty good and I don't see the need for a special blue ray version to enjoy it more. Also...more and more people are streaming media these days....and not buying DVD's as much as before. Between what's on tv, cable, dvd's and online...I barely have time to see it all...and I also think too many people feel blueray won't be around for long...even though its the accepted standard...people don't want to be stuck with a player and movies and then find it's changed again.

Sony needs to stop being greedy and get with it. I would ONLY buy a PS3 at this point to get a BluRay and I'm not really that concerned with having one right now.

I've been searching for good blu-ray movies to watch and want to use my hdtv to its full potential sooo much and have some BR movies and they look incredible but the prices are ridiculous and need to be dropped other then that i saw BR players for about 299$ which isn't all that bad im sure it'll be dropped, but they have to market it better plus with all the pirates and stuff ppl can download hdmovies burn em on dvds nowadays so maybe thats also why.

Price, Price, Price. I sometimes find myself waiting weeks until I can find a deal before I buy something on BLu Ray because of the price. I used to buy dvds on Tuesdays every week. The least they could do is have them on sale week one like DVDs are. maybe not 12 bucks buck 18-20 is better than 35-40.

I think the general concensus is that Blu-Ray is just too expensive right now. I. too would only buy a PS3 for the Blu-Ray player. $400 bucks is just too expensive. And the cheapest I've seen Blu-rays is $30. Why would anyone spend that when bargain bin DVDs are $5 bucks each? Plus, I need a 1080p HDTV to really appreciate Blu-Ray. It's just too much of a financial commitment.

They basically stated the obvious. Consumers aren't buying blu-ray like crazy because very few people have a good 1080p that takes advantage of blu-ray. $150 blu-ray player might help but it will be redundant because the people that can only afford a $150 blu-ray player probably don't have a very good TV. (As in, not 1080p)

So I think we should just blu-ray and technology progress, as 1080p TV's get cheaper, blu-ray will get cheaper and sales of both will increase. It will just take some time (years)

You do not need 1080p to apprieciate blu ray's picture quality (although it helps). I do agree that price is a bit of an issue, but if you think Sony is greedy, take a look at fox (Example: I hated paying $35 for I. Robot which is from Fox, but I got a copy of Men in Black for $20 (on sale), and it came with a free movie ticket ($7.50) to see Hancock, it was from sony), although Sony's less advertised movies (such as foreign films), cost a heavy penny.

Well first off Blu-ray will probably never catch fire like DVD did. There's really not that many advantages for blu-ray over DVD, that DVD had over VHS.

Stand blu-ray players are going to be expensive for awhile. This is because it's takes a fairly decent technology to run videos in hi-def. This means the only economic choice for a blu-ray player is buying a device that is used for other things like a modern pc, or the PS3.

People wont buy blu rays until prices increase drastically.i personally dont mind the cost of blu ray movies but box sets are ridiculous.hbo started the madness by charging 120 dollars for half a season of the sopranos.

I'm pretty sure it's always been this way. Though BR was often reported on how it was doing vs. HD-DVD and made it sound like it was doing well, both were still getting completely and totally annihilated by regular DVD sales every step of the way. There isn't realy much of an added benefit for BR for most 'average' buyers here in this country yet, or at least nothing compared to the VHS-DVD jump - even that one took forever.
