Blu-ray player

I recently purchased a LG BD550 blu-ray player. It's great and all but I have one problem. Whenever I play blu-ray movies, I can't seem to figure out how to fill the entire screen. I have a 1080p tv. In the settings menu for the blu-ray, I set the aspect ratio to 16:9 and resolution 1080p. And yes, I'm using a HDMI connection.

The only way I can fill the entire screen with the picture is manually zooming in. It works, but I have to do this every single time when I'm playing a movie. So far, I tried the Dark Knight and Transfomers. Is this normal? Do I have to keep manually zooming in to fill the screen or am I missing something? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Over a decade of dvd and this question is still asked. Just because it is in HD does not mean the black bars go away.

Heh, thanks for clearing that up for me. I haven't bothered watching movies in dvd/blu-ray till now.

Back when 16:9 sets first came on the market, the big selling point was - "Now you won't have to put up with the black bars anymore"

Looks like everyone forgot about that little lie.
