Boarderlands PC, Retail or Steam?

I am very interested in Boarderlands for PC.

I was considering Operation Flashpoint since it was very different from my run and gun FPS games, but the RPG elements in Boarderlands got my attention.

I have not played any RPG games other than the Pokemon games and most recently Paper Mario on VC.

My question is should I buy the Retail DVD version from Walmart or download it from Steam?

I am asking for your opinion.

i prefer steam, because i always lose my cd keys and steam fixes that problem. however usually modding games bought from steam can be a little harder so if you like that, then maybe buy the cd version. personally i will be getting the steam one

I got it from steam and Saved 30 bucks, however depending on the steam file size, it may take a while to download on release.

I personally buy most everything on Steam, so that's what I would recommend... :P

You're better off getting the retail version, because you will have a boxed copy that you can keep and you can use the "Add Non Steam Titles" feature in Steam to add it to the Steam interface so that it functions as if you had purchased it through Steam. Also, Steam is infamous for cruddy download speeds that often force you to change servers to find acceptable speeds and/or keep your downloads from abruptly stopping. When new, popular titles are released, it is often much more difficult to obtain the game as opposed to going to the nearest store, purchasing the game, popping the DVD in, and installing in a few mere minutes.

The only reason you should use Steam is if the price difference is great (not likely) or you just can't find it in stores (often the case in my small, cruddy area - if I could purchase games in stores, believe me, I would. Much less hassle).

Both have disadvantages and advantages. I can't choose for you.

I prefer retail DVD when the price is equal or close becuase I do prefer to have the pysical disc. I know Valve is doing well in the finance department and are pretty nice people to fans but the way Steam is setup if Valve ever wanted they could pull the plug on my games.

Normally Ill get it ratail, but the fact that there were not alot of retailers selling it over here, and the fact that it was about 20 bucks cheaper on steam for me
(no I kid you not) I went with steam.

One of those very rare games I guess... Drakensang never made it out here either -.- sadly we dont have alot of different chains here, (we got a sh*tload of shops, but only something like 5 buyers, they generally own all the chains -.-)

I'm not sure what you're talking about. STEAM has been nothing other than blazing fast for me. The slowest download rates I ever get are in the 700kbs zone. When I downloaded Aion, two days after the launch, it was downloading at 1.6mbs, so it only took about an hour and a half to download the whole game. I couldn't ask for better service.

I'd get it from Steam if the Retail version was'nt going to be slightly cheaper.

Has it been confirmed that Boarderlands, like Empire Total War, will be using Steam regardless how you buy it?

If that is the case, then I guess it makes little difference because I bought L4D on retail and believe that the DVD is now useless because my game is linked to Steam.

With this respect, Steam would be a good decision,but still don't know if retail DVD version will use steam or not.

Although, I still like to have a instruction booklet.
