I wish people would stop misquoting this bloke. I was trying to find a source for where he said that line about charging more if he could on wikipedia and even when I went to the source that was cited it wasn't actually in the transcript.

everything EA does is gonna be a waste of money to him, cause its not on activision pockets xD

Yeah, but he has always been an idiot. He could have replied with a more professional response.Typical lazy people not reading the article. In nowhere did he say this. millerlight89Nah I read it... of course he didn't say this, just sort of did between lines.

MadCat46He's the CEO of a multi-billion dollar company so you understand it's a certainty that he is far more intelligent than you or I. I never understood the immense hate this man receives, his goals and methods are no different than any other CEO, business owner, or investor in the world and the only thing that separates himself from others of his stature is that he's not politically correct and isn't afraid to flip off the competition and minority sales demographics aka the "vocal minority". Not saying the man should be held up to the standard that humanity should strive to be but really the hate on him is crazy, is it some sort of inferiority complex kicking in with you guys or what?
the problem is that he rns his mouth about every single occurence his company has.. case in point the guitar hero/music hero franchise slaying where he a wekk before was praising it.. then turned on a dime n demonized it
he did the same thing over the ifinity ward ousting
Maybe he can help fund a real Star Wars game then. If you're reading this, Kotick, here's what we need: Space fighting along the lines of the X-Wing games, Light saber fighting along the lines of Jedi Academy and its predecessors, exploration that's kind of like the LEGO games (but maybe more robust) and a good story. And no monthly fee mmo stuff. If you make this, you will be a god. Now go, Kotick! Fulfill your destiny!

He just doesn't like when EA has a game that will rival WoW. Even by just going through beta I can tell SWTOR will be a great game that will become very popular unlike all those other MMORPGs that claimed to be a WoW killer. SWTOR is great in quality just like WoW but does not try to copy everything from WoW. It's also nice that the quests are not just boring fetch quests without an explanation. SWTOR is an MMORPG version of Knights of the Old Republic.RyviusARC
thats not how i feel about SWTOR.. to me its jsut WoW in space XD
i will forever refer to it as the "other" old republic game, its a sin to even put it in the same room as those two works of art and doing any less is an injustice. SWTOR is a sham a disgrace and it hasnt even hit a store shelf yet.

have you even played it? all you do is trash talk it like a fanboy of wow (not saying you are one)My god you people have reading comprehension problems. He didint say it was a waste of money at all he said EA should be careful because the liscence holder ( Lucas ) will be the ones gaining most of the profit and that it's dangerous in terms of risk vs reward for EA.

to answer your quesiton no i havent but when every expert (i trust) has played it and is crying foul i need to toss flags onto the field. kotaku, gameinformer, a couple other places. all exclaim nothing but fear n dread about swtor calling it things like "disorganized" and "generic" nope i wont be getting it. not for all the money in king solomons kingdom and thats just that.
besides from what ive seen of gameplay itd send me running anyway, reminds me of champions online minus the fun..
mmo's are jsut ment to stay in the fantasy framework not sci-fi.. everytime its been done its failed. the matrix online, swg, star trek online, auto assault, tabula rasa, need i continue the list??
superheroes are about the limits of the MMO. its just not a genre that can handle the ebb and flow required for science fiction. i know i played tabula rasa start to finish i was there for garriots big in-game sign off. as was i present when they turned off the matirx online (glad they did). some things jsut cant be done and despite my wishes for it to be otherwise developers need to grasp that.
everytime i see a science fiction MMO i just shake my head.. its insanity by definition: preforming a repetitive task expect each time a different outcome.

The person he is getting advice from is probably some Star Wars purist fanboy who found some story element he didn't like and now wants to demonize the game. When I compared SWTOR to WoW I only meant in quality. Like you said SWTOR is like Mass Effect in dialogue but I find it comparable to Knights of the Old Republic in other aspects. I actually detest most MMORPGs but I actually enjoyed playing SWTOR because it didn't bore me like most MMORGPs do. It had a more involved storyline with better side quests.

Say what you want about Kotick, I don't like him either, but stupid he is not, EA showered a newly founded Bioware studio with money disregarding common sense (if they really invested as much money as they say) making them work in the most volatile and unstable genre ever designed by man, MMO. I sure hope it'll be pretty big and it'll sustain a community till it gathers a few expansions and a few tenths of major content patches over several years, but it's a pretty impossible goal, it'll be a miracle if they manage.
I'll be playing too, liked what I saw, but let's not confuse personal interest with extremely high goals that won't happen 99.9%, it'll be a miracle if it'll hapen (WoW was a miracle too, now WoW itself is part of the almost infinite wall a MMO has to climb to be successful, because WoW contains most of the players that are ready to pay for a MMO and they won't detach easily).

Well I don't know how popular it will become but I played both WoW and SWTOR and SWTOR is just as great with quality content. I like SWTOR even more than WoW and it's one of the few MMORPGs I ever enjoyed.Bioware made the wrong move using Starwars as much as I love the universe, Kotick is right, imo a mass effect MMO would have made WAY more sense since they wouldn't have to
1. Pay licensing fees out the ass
2. Make sure they don't trample starwars lore too much.
Mass Effect literally screams for a MMO, it has everything starwars has except the lightsabers/force (and it kinda has the force).

Yeah I know, SW is big name, but don't forget ME is a very popular series as well, much like warcraft was. It was die hard Warcraft fans like myself who bought WoW and then spread the word that made it get to where it was. There's no reason why I couldn't see that happening for ME.

He's involved in the industry for profit and profit alone. Not surprising he would hold such views. He can't begin to comprehend what makes gaming great in the first place.

No, I'm not. Understanding what people will pay for and what motivates consolites the stores in droves is not the same thing as understanding what makes gaming great. If the two were truly inseparable, games would be a hell of a lot better in general. Smart business strategy does not necessarily correlate with creative and innovative products.
