Bootup problem

My computer can't get futher that after the first screen in the bootup, ending in black screen with the blinking letter thing in the corner or other wierd things. Anybody know how i can maby virus scan from a program on a cd ? I can accses my d: in the dos command thing.

does it POST? (do you see the CPU and RAM info)

I use acer aspire. On my other computer i downloaded windows vista recovery disc x64 because i didnt get any when i bought the laptop.
i followed some guide and burned the .iso on a disc and now i guess i can accses the win recovery meny.

Do i have something calledboot sector viruses ? on the system recovery options my c: drive or operating sys dont list ? can i "load drivers"

Take any discs out of your CD drives, reboot.

I never had any disc in my pc from the start.
Now the message smart failure predicted on hard disk 0 bla bla comes up.

f it... return my pc and let see what happens...
