On my way through working through my large backlog of games, I've made it to Borderlands, and I must

say I'm enjoying it quite a bit. I know it got mixed reviews on some sites, but I'm having fun playing it.

Just the right mix of fps and rpg elements, with the emphasis being on the shooting. You get xp points for killing

stuff. I'm not a huge fan of cel shaded games, but this one actually looks very nice. Large, open vistas, short loading times. Runs smooth,

with no problems on Windows 7. Large selection of weapons, although the interface is kind of cluttered and confusing. I find the enemies acutally quite challenging, skags can take you out in three hits. Story doesn't seem to be all that great. No quicksave, it has auto saves and basically the same vita chamber system that Bioshock had.

But the robot claptrap is annoying.

Overall, it's in the bargain range, so, if you haven't played it yet, I'd definitely recommend it.

weird, I had this game installed for months.. didn't play it till today when spent about an hour or two in it. Then uninstalled it right after that. It's fun as Solo for just a couple for hours & becomes unbelievable later on. like a Bonehead enemy taking a million shots from a sniper to the head before dying. or Zombie who seems invincible to bullets. Online I don't know which people I kept connecting to where my ping felt like it was 500 or something. may be it's meant to be played with 3 other players but it's simply not it's time anymore. back when the game released I had some of my steam friends playing this game. not anymore.

It's good, but I get bored if I don't have anyone else to play with. I wish they had put more effort into the missions, but oh well.

Single-player is more rewarding - such as killing Skagzilla without dying while playing solo.

Bonehead is the first mini boss, it's purpose is to show how hard it is to fight a higher level enemy and why you should avoid them. Work on some other quests and come back in a couple levels to take him out easily. And by zombie I assume you got the Dr Ned DLC. It's a high level zone, and you wont be able to kill anything there for a while.

The party pooper is here

Sorry to rain on your parade guys but i could not get into this game no matter how hard i tried. I only played past the tutorial and i immediately put the game down, it just didn't feel like my kind of game at all. The story felt quite weak and had no real meaning to it. For me it feels like the whole game is about shooting stuff and that's it.

Unless someone can confirm the game picks up later on, and suddenly becomes like the Fallout games then i may reconsider playing it. Which i find unlikely :P

That's cool, man. Different people like different things.

I happen to hate games like Assassin's Creed and GTA (they bore me to tears) yet many people love them.

I thought the game bit the big one. Lame forced humor, bad graphics (even for the time it was released), stale combat, shallow classes, low FoV, etc.

Borderlands is essentially a stripped down MMO at its core but with only 4 players. I find it only fun with friends, expecially ones you know. If you play it alone, it gets very repetitive. I wish they alllowed for more....8 maybe...that'll be a riot....and more game modes. Like Last Stand or something, where you fight increasing waves of enemies while defending a base while repairing/maintaning critical structures. Or even defending a moving convoy (remember Mad Max 2? haha).

I agree. As a shooter is was okay, nothing special. But it failed on all accounts as an RPG. I did have some fun with it though, but it just got old quickly.

Probably my favourite game this generation. Its best played with friends, but doing some shooting and looting solo is always fun. Bring on Borderlands 2, I just there is mroe to do after the endgame this time.

I completed the game a while a ago and just recently started my second play trough with the same character, I love the game and all the talk about it being bad if your playing it alone... not true, seeing as this is my second play through alone. Granted its not everyone's cup of tea and it doesn't have the greatest story in existence, but what it has is a lot of looting... fun and simple game play and a lot of bosses and skags to kill.

Storyline is crap. It's more like Diablo then FO, focus on killing stuff and getting better equipment. Having said that, the loot and killing stuff is the strongest part of the game which is why people like it.

Game is great..

The Dynamic Shadows are a performance killer. (definitely not the most optimized feature for graphics on this game, which takes away from the overrall optimization of the performance/graphics area)

Other than that it is a fantastic game, my GF and I are playing through it together (LAN) and it is a blast. Was a little slow starting out, but it does pick up, at least it did for us. We are thoroughly enjoying it, playing it about an hour or 2 each day, for the past few days, since we actually started playing it together.

I can tell you now, it would be more boring solo, and definitely not more rewarding solo. I probably wouldn't play it much at all by myself, but we have a blast together on there.

I liked it a lot, only real problems were the delay in sniping from outside the initial combat moment (enemy starts moving at the sound of your gun, so you can't really get the first shot on target) and the DLC was slightly disappointing in how it rehashed bosses. Zombies and Knoxx were awesome, Moxxi was alright, Claptrap was a big letdown.

This could easily be my fav game of 2011 so far. SO much more satisfying than Crysis 2 (which I liked),

Metro 2033, or Bioshock.

They really got the gunplay right. Guns feel satisfying, and respawning actually makes sense coz you gather xp points that way.

Plus, the environments look great. Love the looting, although the huge signs indicating loot take time getting used to.

Great game.. And like Diablo 2.. If your playing by your self.. Your doing it wrong.. The game was designed for cooperative play.

Meh, I didn't think much of it. It was good for a few hours, but became very boring very quickly.

I've never played co-op though, which I've heard is better.

I wasn't interested pre-game or at release. The cover art actually put me off further. I then purchased on special and put (according to Steam) 115 hours into it. All single player. Best game I have played in the last two years. If you like shooters, this is a must play. 8)
