system: core 2 duo E7400 2.8ghz, geforce GTS 250, 2gb ram (drivers updated)

I can only get about 20-30 fps in borderlands and i know i should be getting higher...I tried adjusting all the settings and the only one that makes a difference is dynamic shadows and it only gives me like 10 more fps, but i wouldnt want to play without shadows.... anyone know what the problem could be?

Hey, just to inform you I have the same system specs, just 4 GB of ram. Well I think this game is horribly optimized especially just by looking at it and seeing your frames. But one thing that helped me a lot was going into the nVidia control panel and turning off AA (antialaising) for borderlands so that u can get that boost in FPS, other than that, try defragging, lowering a bit of Antiscopic filtering...

and if you dont mind me asking, what your resolution?

Me too, Have the same specs .....and the game....working just amazing......I think You must need a disk clean up ...so that there is a lot of space for the game.......what is the size of your hard disk......and How much you have used up the space? At least 40% should be free!!! I hope that this information was helpful to you!!!! tell me when your successful with this idea!!!!

I'm running it at 1680x1050. I'm pretty sure there is no aa on. That game booster thing looks kinda iffy, i'll look into it. My harddrive is probably my problem. It is the only thing i havn't upgraded on my pc yet. It is only 200gb and only has like 20gb space open on it, plus it is like 4 years old and has failed on me once before(ive been trying to get a new one, but no money:( ) but the thing is all my other games are running fine still, slower than when my windows was freshly installed though. I'm gonna reformat my computer tomorrow and upgrade to windows 7, maybe that will help. thanks guys

Just disable AA from the game Also go in the nvidia panel and in the adjust image settings drag the slider to performance Also you only have 2GB. In my experience while almost all games work fine with 2GB on XP ( i also have 2 GB ) i found a couple of games that 2GB might not be enough ( i had problems with GTA4 )

Leave Dynamic shadows off. They look horrible and reduce framerate by a LOT.

The Borderlands art style has its own shadows essentially painted onto the textures as is, and they look much more natural and fitting for the enviroment.

With dynamic ones on you will also encounter really ugly areas where objects have multiple shadows (and not in a realistic way).
