well, Gamespy does the job allright, its not a service I like too much, but as far as I know there is not a big safety risk using the service, its free anyways, and it is the service that is ment to be used with the game, so why not use it?

This is an example of how people can get over paranoid about using computers on the internet. It's a game on a secure service. You have nothing to worry about on their side. Most people get viruses from their own doing (questionable adult sites, pirating, etc).I noticed to play Borderlands online you need a Gamespy account and I have seen other people saying to use Gameranger to play Borderlands online. Basically I would like to know what is the best and most secure way to play Borderlands online on PC? thanks

i have heared that gamespy has viruses.
Every time I've tried using it to play with my friends it wouldn't let us connect to each other so we didn't have any choice but to use game ranger :(
Just so you know, borderlands isn't great online, it uses p2p and the lag isn't compensated for. I play with the sniper rifle and every online game I joined, my hits just weren't registering at all.

Same, this game is a pos when it comes to the online co-op. Don't even bother, it's way too laggy for it to be bearable, let alone enjoyable :\

No it isn't. Sometimes it can be seen as a virus (my McAfee hates Gamespy), but it is a legitimate tool. Of course i take that if McAfee considers it a virus then by god it is a freaking virus. Nothing can be more useless than using Gamespy. I use Gameranger just because of my dislike of Gamespy, but that isn't really because Gamespy is... bad, it is just that i will not use it.Gamespy doesn't have viruses. I am pretty sure it is just people that dislike it making up crap. On a side note.... I remember my dad telling us not to install anything from the PCGamer demo discs because he was afraid of viruses. I can't even see how he came to that reasoning? That would be a death sentence to any business that decided to put a virus in their product.
