I dont understand why Gearbox didnt put DRM in the game on steam but then goes around and makes people use it in the DLC pacage!

Thats why I started a boycott group on steam to show them that we dont like drm on steam!

We are Borderlands players that don't like the fact that Gearbox put DRM into the Steam version of the Borderlands DLC, after not having any in the game! We hate DRM!

a) There is already a general no drm group on steam b) Borderlands isn't the only game on Steam w/ SecuROM DRM c) Boycott groups do not work. Take a look at Modern Warfare 2 - huge boycott group was on steam... most of whom ended up purchasing the game.

Boycott will do nothing, just don't buy it and move on.

They want to make a big impact with their boycot, but they can't even do a simple spell check.

There's nothing wrong with DRM. Like Zulu said Steam IS DRM. It's the kind of DRM which is the problem.

If by "that gearbox employee" you mean "Co-Founder of Gearbox Randy Pitchford" and "bashed steam and valve" you mean "made completely valid observations that everyone else is too fanboy to admit" ... then yeah I agree with you 100%.

If by "everyone else that is too fanboy" you mean John Gibson, co-founder and president of Tripwire Interactive that defended Valve against Randy Pitchford's claim, an indie company that has actually made business with Valve and was allegedly an "oppressed indie dev that was being exploited by Valve" unlike Randy that was speaking out of his own ***... then I agree 100% with you.

I thought Steam was suppose to be DRM free? With all the glitches and rabid supporters of Steam I'm just going avoiding it entirely for now on... I don't like any of Valve's games anyway... expect gungame and zombie mod on CSS, but technically that wasn't Valve! :(

If you buy Steam games you're contributing to DRM.RichardStallman

And every single person with digital media has the rights to protect and manage their products.

DRM does NOT imply bad things! Anything from a 5 character CD key to a game with limited installs, SecuROM 7 and Internet activation are all forms of DRM. Simply the latter are the bad ones.

It shouldn't affect you if you just backup your games. Using your same legit account and reinstalling your backup. All legit, I can't see why upon reinstalling Windows on the 6th time, then you couldn't play a game you bought and own.On purchase unless it says you are renting/leasing then it's all yours. I know with Crysis I reinstalled and it said activation limit used up, so I just went to EA online, and started a online chat, and within a minute they reset my limits. It wasn't that hard.
Now I'm thinking people who complain about DRM are in fact pirates, that's the main reason for the complaints.
*prob gonna get flamed for that statement, just voicing my opinion.

Understand now the problem. I only have 1x PC so don't get affected that badly. After hearing about your situation now I understand why people are annoyed with it all.

Yes actually, all DRM is bad, none of it works except in the loan your friend the cd kind of piracy... some forms are just more acceptible than others.

So if you made a game you'd be perfectly fine with people pirating it?

They have just released a tool that revokes the 5 install limit. Guess they do listen to people.

People are going to pirate it regardless of the type of DRM it has.

No no. A boycott could do something. Thing is that there is hardly enough people that are even commited to the idea. or if they are, they lose interest and cave eventually as is demonstrated with the majority of boycotts.
