Could you post a link from a reputable source where it says that? I'd actually like an indepth explanation if possible.kodex1717
Believe me I had the same question before I got my 8800GTS and all the people I ask advice me to go for dualcore.
It is here a user with P4 and 8800GTS and he got 5000points in 3dmark 2006 while I got 8800 points with my E6750 and 8800GTS 320

I don't think you got 8800 3dmarks because you have two cores. I think it's because you have a E6750. I'm sure having a better processor would help, but I don't think that simply having an extra core will do anything.[QUOTE="dayaccus007"][QUOTE="kodex1717"]Could you post a link from a reputable source where it says that? I want him to listen your advice not mine and to post his fps in some games with Athlon 64 and 8800GTS, I'm curious about the result
The following is taken from a thread on Tom's Hardware Forums:
Also while you might end up somewhat CPU limited in games, they should be playable, you may need to tweak some settings to get the most out of it, but that's the same as graphics. And if you do reach a plateau that should mean you should get performance free AA or higher resolutions, unless your graphics card is equally maxed. TheGreatGrapeApe

This might be helpful, it shows that 8800's performance is already bound by the lower x2's.

Bottom line: you won't get your money's worth when buying that card with the 3500+. Either save yourself some money by buying a cheaper card or go all the way and upgrade your cpu too.
edit: primarily edited to remove the word "bottleneck" :D (because it's frequently misused)
