Hi there, I just bought The Orange Box and after it installed all the games, it still started downloading some more for all of them. I'm new to the HL games so I wanted to start off with just the regular HL2 but I need to download another 400 mbs! to play it!? Also, I just wanted to confirm, do all the games install off the disc (8 GBs) or should it have installed more than that because just before I started installing, it said it required 10 GB so am I missing out on 2 GBs somehwere? Thanks!

Updates,Patches other things could be in that 400MB so i'd let it Install. I doubt you're missing out on anything. If it didn't Install with the disc it isn't needed. if there was a (Serious) problem the disc wouldnt of installed anything.

The patches are really huge, so yea, expect to download the Orange Box updates. (TF2 is possibly like 1GB for the updates if you installed the game from scratch.)

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I was really looking forward to playing TF2 but I need to download another 4 GBs to update it :( (I'm on limited bandwidth)

1st of all in every game it says about 10Gb of free HDD so it'll run smoothly, you need overall to have about 5-10Gb free on your HDD if you want that your OS will run smoothly; 2nd of all it'll install all neccecary updates automatically via Steam so don't you worry, sit back, relax and let it do it for you; 3rd and last you should definitely install from the disk to save time, after activation you'll able to download it to your account any time you want without the disk - but an already ready installation will save you lots of precious time :)

Just updates and patches. Nothing to be worried about. The only one that is a bit of a worry is TF2 which has a HUGE amount of updates. The end result though is worth it

Yep, it's all updates, you should just watch out with your internet though so you don't get capped. Leave the updates paused and just download the ones you want and can download. You can download the others at any other time and a little bit at time if you want. Another option is if you happen to know anyone with the game who can give you the game files on a storage device, you can do that as well.
