Only played 3 matches but its pretty dang fun so far to me. Love the teamwork, was doing really well as medic. Reminds me of Quake Wars, The old Wolfenstien and TF2 kinda.

Donno how you can say a game sucks in the first 20mins though.

Umm...look at Counter-Strike which has had the same simple gameplay for years, and people are still playing it. If the core gameplay is good, nothing else matters in the long run.

I see your point, but I highly doubt Brink will have that kind of longevity.

I agree somewhat. The content depth isn't really there. IDK I am still wroking out wtf I am supposed to do, so I think when everyone actually understands the roles and SD releases some major patches, the game could shape up quickly

I don't know what people saw in the previews, I didn't see it. I'll wait for this to be at least half off before I'm willing to try it.

Remmib

Game also has gotten some 8's and 9's also along with some low ones, cant always go by reviews.

But I guess if the allmighty joystiq says it sucks it must :P

If we are listing sites like joystiq then here are some other reviews

- 8/10

http://www.videogamer.com/pc/brink/review.html

- 8/10

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-05-10-brink-review

IGN and Joystiq have issues with it, but Eurogamer, Gametrailers and Videogamer all seem to enjoy it, who to trust? I say try the game yourself.

Basically I would compare Brink to Counterstrike or TF2, great multiplayer $20 titles, but for $50 I want a at least a solid single player game (not some hacked together weak story weaved into multiplayer with bots) AND good multiplayer.

I've been playing Brink for last 4 hours or so, and I think it's a great $20 game... I payed $50, and I'm wondering where the hell the rest of the content is.

I don't so much regret buying it, just how much I payed for it. A $50 game it is not.

Thats a good review, agree with most of what he said so far from my time with the game. He raised the good parts and the not so good parts, overall it seemed liek he enjoyed it though.

uh oh looks like the author of that article may lose a lot of his credibility. Look at the latest comments and there is proof that the guy hardly played enough Brink to properly asses the game and merely wanted to be the first one out with a review. Now this is a shame b/c I used to actually enjoy joystiq reviews. Not to say Brink isn't without its faults, but a 2/5 hardly seems fair

Yeah I agree. I feel other reviews focused on negative aspects of the game too much, or compared it to other games taking focus away from the good parts the game has to offer. I feel this review better represents the good and bad of the game.

1) When developers started making online and multiplayer, more important than single player - games went downhill fast. .. Single player should always be the focus, otherwise you end up with literally hundreds of games that are nothing more than clones of each other.

2) Pre- ordering is never a good idea.

I played for like.. half an hour.. and as a player who couldn't care less about single player campaigns, I love the idea of somewhat telling the story through multiplayer games. It's a fantastic idea, and seemed to work pretty well for what I played. In an age where over-budgeted games try and overwhelm us with some laughably "epic" campaign, it's fresh to see bits and pieces of a story fed in between multiplayer mayhem.

My only issue with the game thus far was that it ran poorly with stock settings, but I didn't even have a chance to play with them. I'll try it out tonight and hopefully get it running a lot better.

Hey Developers !!! - -

How about some high quality single player games?!?

This is getting stupid. . . I don't want my gaming to be dependent on a temporary server in cyberspace (that's eventually going to close), populated with people who flunked remedial English.

What you said there ^ repettive with dumb objectives. I saw it coming. I fear this is one of those games that turns out to be less than what was expected and get old after 2-3 weeks of gameplay. Ill see if i cant rent it for my ps3.

Splash has always sucked at sp though, they sucked so badly that Activision/id pulled the plug on the sp for wolf:et and they released the mp for free (which was brilliant, luckily) So it's not a new focus for this dev, they shouldn't have had a sp in the first place imo.

That sounds to me like "sp is mp with bots" It's the most seamless you can get, the same damn thing, just with dumber players.

Exactly this, seriously, did anybody think of something else when they heard/read "seamless play between single and multiplayer"? besides just like Inconsistancy said, Splash Damage doesn't do singleplayer, people were getting interested in the wrong game if they expected something other than what SD does best.

It slipped my mind the game was coming out first in NA. I still have time to pre-order as its not out where I am for another three days which I don't think I will now.

At this time it seems like a mixed bag not only from reviewers but gamers. Reading the forums also looks like some ati users specifically aren't getting good performance so that doesn't go down well for me.

I think its best to wait until after things settle and see how people feel about it then.

On the topic of SP. I always had it in my mind that Brink is very much a MP game & SP with bots but I understand some people might have expected differently but MP has always been what it was about.

I read the Eurogamer review and was a little surpised at the 8 as it didn't read like one imo.

NO, they advertized this:

One of the main features I saw in advertising was "seamless play between single and multiplayer"AutoPilotOn

Ignore it if you wish but thats what they advertized it as.

You do know why i am doing this right? Because when i predict games by experiance people say that i cant possibly know this and that the developers said things that contradict what i said but now everyone "apparently" knows for a fact that the game would have been MP only and choose to ignore the fact that they advertized it as a game that mixes both mp and sp....which was one of the reasons i was looking forward to this, Sp campaign played in MP by opposing forces....now that i said that, no suprise all reviewers whine thats its too repettive.

It's starting to grow on me, slowly, but it is happening. I can see what they were trying to do and the foundation for a great game is definitely there. Hopefully with a patch, it can take this game to the next level. I think the Gametrailers review is the only spot on review I've seen so far.

No sense whatsoever, this game was never about singleplayer.

One of the main features I saw in advertising was "seamless play between single and multiplayer"

It is Seamless play between singleplayer and multiplayer. You make a character and you can use him in singleplayer and level him up adn then take him online and level him up also.

Its multiplayer forcused but if you just wanna play singleplayer against bots and watch the cut scenes and follow the story befor eyou bring yoru character onlien then you can and hell be leveled up and customization things unlocked.

Its not a full blown campaign so if people are expecting a mass Effect or Bioshock type campaign then youll be dissapointed. Its a mix of Left4Dead (how the coop and versus are same missions, except you can level up and customize your character), TF2 and Enemy Territories except with tons of custimization/level up stuff.

Very team oriented and alot of fun if you like team work. If you prefer solo style might not like it.

I think anyone who like TF2, QUake Wars, Enemy Territories, Unreal 2k4, Halo Reach (Invasion Mode) or Shadowrun will like this game.

Besides the horrid Server browser and a few small bugs, Ive been having a blast. Probably the most surprised ive been this year for a game.

Already have had more fun with this multiplayer then I have 90% of onlein fps this gen. Only played 5 hours, but nice plsent surprise.

If they can do some updates to this game like valve did for TF2 like adding a few more levels and a patch for the horrid server browser it woudl be even better.

"The reviewer was not on the winning side of three of the Campaign missions, despite multiple attempts."

Didnt even beat all the levels once

ARMA2 had an average of 77% on metacritic and so did Risen. Those are two games I just loved that alot of reviewers thought were average.

Also cutscenes and you can keep your character to use him in mp, Oh well, frontlines SP did it better, it had actual missions but you switched classes. Oh well you are right. But the reason why reviews say its too repettive and dissapointing is exactly that, the mix of sp and mp is rather week but they never said it is an mp game primarly. Not implying the opposite but they said that they bring sp to mp and the other way around.

I played it for a short period this morning before work and liked the look and thought it was pretty fun.

I purchased it specifically to play some co-op with a friend so if SP isn't much fun I'm good with that - plan on playing with real people.

That's what he said after the story blew up. The post I linked to was edited by IGN without the writer's permission.

People say in 12 hours you earn a gamerscore bigger than 225 - but hey, what do I know?:)

been playing brink for about 4 hours now.... i enjoy it quite a bit. there are some nagging issues that hopefully will be worked out in future patches, but it plays like a fairly well made team based shooter. the only thing i really miss are headshots. It feels like maybe you die a little too fast, guns have fairly poor accuracy even in short bursts, but neither are a major issue for me. with some patches to fix jumpy animations and maybe tighten up the gun accuracy this game could really be great.

I'll be renting this game for the 360 before I even think about spending my hard earned on it for PC. Thanks for the mixed reviews guys.

1) When developers started making online and multiplayer, more important than single player - games went downhill fast. .. Single player should always be the focus, otherwise you end up with literally hundreds of games that are nothing more than clones of each other.

2) Pre- ordering is never a good idea.
