I've been trying to elimante a constant crashing problem with Vista.

Whenever I play games, I get about five BSODs in a four hour period. When I'm not playing games, I get about one BSOD a month.

The error is different every time but most of the time it's 0x000000D1 or 0x0000000A and both errors are usually associated with bad USB device drivers.

So...tell me what I need to change...I'm going to go through and just unplug everything until I stop getting the errors so I can narrow it down. But I'm hoping maybe someone else has experienced this and knows right away what the problem is.

USB devices I have plugged in (and drivers):

Intellimouse explorer 3.0 (default drivers Vista installs)

Xbox 360 controller for Windows (default Vista)

Guitar Hero 3 for Windows controller (default Vista)

External Western Digital HDD (default Vista)

Ok I guess they all have the default drivers installed. Can anyone recommend some drivers for those devices if they've had problems with them before?

Rest of the system...

AMD X2 5600+

8800GTX latest drivers

X-fi XtremeMusic latest drivers

2GB RAM

chances are your XBox 360 controller is causing your BSOD issues. mine has just recently started acting up (sadly my friends wired controller hasnt caused any problems, seems to be only mine for now). so who knows. maybe defective controller in some aspects? im checking up on it more in detail, gonna try to uninstall the drivers for it and re-get them. hopefully that works.

Sometimes it is possible to overload the USB with too much stuff. Other than that it driver related.

My wireless 360 controller has never crashed Vista for me, maybe you've got a bad install?

Try moving the USB devices on to different USB hubs. My dad had a bandwidth exceeded BSOD which was fixed by putting his USB mouse onto the PS/2 instead.
