Hi guys. I have a laptop at the minute that isn't a bad machine, but it overheats like crazy. It's also not great for gaming. It can run some older games but nothing from within the last couple of years. I've been looking to buying a desktop, hopefully one that will be able to run games better. My friend has been trying to help me out but I'm really not all that clued up in this area. We came across this machine:http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-265-OK

How decent is this? Baring in mind I'm on a very tight budget being a student. How well would it run games? Thanks for any help in advance! It's really appreciated.

Why not just buy a laptop cooler and save money for a better desktop later.

Well is there anything you would suggest. That price is not set in stone. I just have no idea where to look.

To get your laptop running ok you probably need to clean the dust out.

As for your new computer, would you want to build it yourself to save a little money? Or perhaps buy something second hand?

I'd be happy to do either of those things if it means a better machine for the money.

Thanks for that! I will definitely have a better look at all of them parts. As for the monitor, my friend is looking to offload one so I could pick that up for cheap. The whole concept of putting it together does seem a little daunting, although that guide looks very useful!

Pretty good suggestion by ionusX, I'd really want a better CPU though, an X3 at 3.2 GHz would be a good deal better at a small extra price: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/amd-athlon-ii-x3-450-rana-triple-core-s-am3-32ghz-15mb-cache-ht-4000mhz-95w-retail

As for second hand, I don't know what the good trading places are in UK, but if you find anything that you think may be worth buying do ask on a forum like this if it's a good deal. There are a lot of deprecated hardware that is expensive in shops yet perform worse than cheaper hardware, that is to say shop prices alone ain't a good indicator for fair second hand prices.

Thanks for all the help guys! I'll look at this in detail, double check that it can fit into my budget and continue to look around just in case of any deals. I'll be back for some final advice.
