I'm looking at buying a cheap budget proccessor that will still be good enough for gaming.
I was looking at the AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+? (around 50 euro)
Any suggestions?
Thanks :P

You should be able to find a Phenom 2 X3 710 2.6Ghz chip for around 80 euros...or like mechwarrior_bob said, the Phenom 2 X2 550 3.1Ghz for roughly the same price. They're both decent procs.

actually he doesn't the new AM3 CPUs are backwards compatible so there's no upgrade required! Huzzahs for AMD! Though he won't get the same performance it'll save him a reinstall, and some nice bucks in the process!
? With AM2+ but is it even backward compatable with AM2 only mobo's, not to mention socket 939actually he doesn't the new AM3 CPUs are backwards compatible so there's no upgrade required! Athlon II 250 is the best and most future proof AMD processor in the market. You won't find this in Intel, howewer, because they do not want to release budget processors for LGA1366 just yet. So AMD is more future proof at the moment, and I can guarantee that it will be the same, or even better, than some E7xxx series (they got a new one in the shop whose owner I know and where we like to test stuff and I am very happy with the performance). On the other hand, for a higher price, you have a future proof PII x2 550 which is a direct competitor of E8xxx series. I didn't even consider your solution, because of many factors:
You will gain little performance improvement in new games because of the old chipset
It will not be future proof
And you will not be happy. So, get some more money and buy a new mobo with a new socket. I seriously cannot recommend anything lower than that, but it's your choice. You should also think will you buy Intel or AMD, but as I mentioned, AMD offers similar performance and future proofing. Sorry for a long post.
