Let me just get one thing out of the way. I know next to nothing about computers. I can do very basic things, but when it comes to technicalities, I will get lost very easily.

That being said, my pc is starting to feel outdated. I only bought it a year and a half ago, and according to the front of it, here are it's specs.

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600

Graphics: Original was a 6150, but I upgraded to a 7900 (btw, I understand that it is possible to have two video cards?)

memory: 2048 mb

Hard Drive: 250gb

I've looked around on the internet, and all over I see "custom built computers can outperform pre-bought ones". With my current specs, it seems like it would be a lot cheaper to upgrade... but a built one would be more future proof.

So build or upgrade? And if upgrade, please suggest some good parts (mainly video card) or direct me to a place. Thanks in advance.

upgrade

You got a dual core

you got two gigs of memory

and your hard drive is big enough

but youre video sucks....get an 8800GT.

*Sorry, it doesnt suck. I think you will be fine for a month or two more. You can definately "wait it out" to see what else is gonna be offered in 3-6 months. Dx10 is a scam

The pc is fine just need to upgrade the GPU... If I was going to recommend a card it would be the 8800gt at www.newegg.com , but they are normally out of stock...

You only need a new video card like 8800GT or HD3870 and a new PSU maybe.

Yep, new video card will do the trick and nows a perfect time to upgrade that with the 8800gt just coming out. We just need the stores to get them in stock and stop gouging the prices.
