This is going to be my first build ever. Should I worry about accidentally destroying it and so pay for someone to build it for me?

Budget: $2000 Australian

Website: http://www.centrecom.com.au/

So far: (Image updated)

Total Price $1853.30 (A bit more because if you add in the 650w psu)

If possible, ignore this build and suggest a better configuration :D

Questions:

1) The prices of 6gb RAM greatly vary on that website with mine being one of the cheapest. Are there any limitations with the RAM I've chosen?

2) Is the P6T an appropriate motherboard?

3) It seems centrecom will only sell that case with a 500W psu. Is that enough power?

Due to me being a noob, I will not be installing any after market cooling or anything. I don't intend to overclock anything. I'm planning to get everything around September

I'm in Aus, and I would recommend msy.com.au - much cheaper for picking out parts and could save you money if you're building it yourself. That aside, that's a very good build. I would, however, change the PSU to a corsair, coolermaster or seasonic 650W minimum. PSU's that come with cases are usually rubbish

Wow, that i7 is seriously overpriced. $825 AUD is equal to roughly $718 USD which is hundreds of dollars more than it should be (mine cost $200 USD). Also, the P6T Deluxe is an older board, get a P6X58D-E as it has more features and should be cheaper (unless that website tries to rip you off like its doing with the CPU).

I might actually go with msy. But ultimately I'll decide in September when I actually build this. I will go with your recommendation of PSU.

My build comes out $300 cheaper using that processor and motherboard but I'm still unsure about going with AMD. I'm reading about AMD now.

There must be some sort of disadvantage to compensate for AMD being cheaper?

For some reason, the price above is wrong. The i7 930 is actually $359 at centrecom. Also I'm changing to the motherboard you recommend. Guys is there any disadvantage with the RAM I chose? For some reason It's cheaper than the other 6gb kits.

Go with a 955/965. I7 provide no additional performance in games, you would be better off spending the money you saved on the GPU.

Well the disadvantage to AMD processors are that the intel i7's are quite a bit better. But for gaming assuming your not going to need the multi threading crazyness that is the i7, you might as well save 100USD (whatever that is in your crazy world) and get a p2.

I agree good build and also i live in aus and msy has the best prices out there. The problem with msy is that they have very bad availability a lot of the time, but otherwise they have the best prices. I have a very similar build to that with an i7 920 and i built it for 1500 without the 5870 that is in it right now. Prices have gone down since so you should easily be able to affort something high end if you have 2 grand to spend.

Just for comparison, here's what the AMD build would look like. With AMD being cheaper, I've managed to change the 5870 to a 5970 keeping the totally price roughly the same.

IntelTotal Price ~ $1853.30 (5870)

AMDTotal Price $1894.40 (5970)

Still not sure about the change to AMD. I've never really used an AMD machine before. It would be nice to hear more of your opinions.

Why did you put a triple channel kit in there? Only lGA1366 is capable of utilizing triple channel RAM. All AMD platforms can only use dual channel.

AMD CPU's are equal in reliability to Intel's CPU. Both manufacturers are great so don't worry about it. Plus that Phenom II 965 can be overclocked to 3.6Ghz + if you have good cooling.

The Black Edition Phenoms have unlocked multiplers which are really handy. You will be able to OC the 965 to 4.0GHZ on air no problem, which will handle any GPU on the market for many years to come.

EDIT: You might want to look at some 3RD party coolers, I wouldn't use stock heatsinks.
