OK guys. My budget (by May 10 of next year) will be about $1500. I want to build a good Desktop that can play WoW (with BC and WotLK), Oblivion (with SI and mods) and Spore. I want windows XP as far as Operating Systems go. Also, if you guys know any good books/videos on how to build a PC would be much appreciated. Also any info on tools i may be needing would as be great. Thanks!

I mean, i want to start buying the components beforehand, especially windows XP, because it might not be on the market for much longer.

Buy windows XP now, and wait until may on the rest. Because by then the Core i7 (nehalem) will be out, and you need a new motherboard for that, and nvidia and ATI's new offerings will likely to be out as well. (If not, their current offerings will have a price drop.)

There is absolutely no reason to start buying parts now if you aren't going to finish your computer until May.

Actually he could buy simple hardware like the case, DVD/RW drive(s), floppy drive (if needed), OS, even power supply if he wanted to. I did it.

I highly doubt he'll need a system with next-gen hardware with the games he wants to play, especially with a $1500 limit. And to the OP, try going to google and type in keywords like "how to build a pc" or find a friend who knows how to put together a PC and have him help you when you put it together. I think that's the best way to learn.

So buy some hardware and have it sit there for over half a year? Even basic things like power supplies and cases become cheaper over time. In fact, the case that I bought for me and my brother in early august is now $10 cheaper.
