There is absolutely no reason to start buying parts now if you aren't going to finish your computer until May.bungie93
Actually he could buy simple hardware like the case, DVD/RW drive(s), floppy drive (if needed), OS, even power supply if he wanted to. I did it.
Buy windows XP now, and wait until may on the rest. Because by then the Core i7 (nehalem) will be out, and you need a new motherboard for that, and nvidia and ATI's new offerings will likely to be out as well. (If not, their current offerings will have a price drop.)Atomicfireball
I highly doubt he'll need a system with next-gen hardware with the games he wants to play, especially with a $1500 limit. And to the OP, try going to google and type in keywords like "how to build a pc" or find a friend who knows how to put together a PC and have him help you when you put it together. I think that's the best way to learn.

So buy some hardware and have it sit there for over half a year? Even basic things like power supplies and cases become cheaper over time. In fact, the case that I bought for me and my brother in early august is now $10 cheaper.
