Hi, I'm going to attempt to build my own PC for the first time.

I can spend ~$1000, and want to be able to play games at a high (not highest, cuz I'm told that is impossible regardless of hardware) level of detail.

The W7 launch has totally confused me and I'm not even sure where to begin... other than newegg.com

any help would be appreciated!

PS how is there not a sticky thread re: I want to build a PC?

you can max out alot of games the only ones people still cant are the ones with poor coding (such as mercenaries 2 and crysis)

and at 1000 bucks (assuming its no monitor or OS you will be doing just that.. haha my $900 CDN rig(rough estimate)has done that for me np.

Yeah, I'm set with the monitor and OS....

I just dont know what specific pieces to get. If they will be obsolete due to W7, should I wait?

I mean, I have NO idea what to get.

G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3-1600

CM 690 w/ Caviar Black 640GB HDD

AMD X4 965 w/ Asus 790XTD EVO Mobo

Get an aftermarket CPU cooler, and you'll have a pretty epic build :D Here's two you can choose from that'll be in your budget:
