Im building a home PC for my girlfriends mum, I want to make it as cheap as possible but I dont want to give her something old, so I am going ivy Bridge. Im working at about a £400 price point. She already has a semi-decent 750Gb HDD which I plan to use for storage and then put in a 60 or 120gb SSD as a boot drive and installing the main programs she will use. I dont need windows 7 and she already has KB/M speakers and a monitor. So this is what I've picked out so far. Its a i5 3450 at 3.1Ghz, a fractal design mATX case, a H77 mobo for the integrated graphics, 8gb of RAM, an effiecient 380w PSU and a 60gb Corsair Force GT SSD.

So. Any feedback on what could be improved, I dont know if the i5 is overkill but she is a typical adult user where she will have about 30 tabs open in chrome and itunes on constantly and she wants everything to be very snappy so she doesn't get frustrated, so what do you think?

Go with the bigger SSD. A card reader for camera cards is a nice extra.

Shes putting in her room, and she will be watching DVD's on it and playing music and just general browsing, she's also starting a cupcake business so she needs a good PC to help her get things going....

Looks great but I have to recommend a bigger SSD. 120GB is good, 60GB will run out a lot faster, hard to say how much space she would really need though. It's your call.

Well i understand that windows 7 is 28gb, then theres just programs like itunes and chrome so I dont think 120Gb is necessary....

Uhhh wtf?? Put together a build with celeron g620 and a z77 mobo. I have a g530 a $40 cpu and it totally changed my perspective on things. It will be more than enough.

you're underestimating the g530, a $40 cpu. Even though it is a celeron, it is a sandy bridge intel celeron, and is fast enough to run starcraft 2 on high settings easily. I was also reluctant at first to buy one, since its only $40, but now im glad I purchased it for my backup computer. Buy one, try it out and if you dont think its fast enough then return it.

i dont think you understamd that the pc im building is to last a very long time and its not just for some back room computer, its the primary PC in the house and I dont want to give her a subpar experience when she can afford a good level.
