Hi guys, I am new to this forum but I have been a reader of the site and forum for a while. I am hoping to build a desktop to play some games. Just had a few questions: 1. I am a fan of AMD processors, so I was wondering which of processor should I go for (I am hoping to spend around $100 maybe slightly over)? I am unsure which is better between Phenom X4/Phenom II X3/Phenom II X3 (I know the PII X4's are clearly the best AMDs right now). I hear that the new 45nm architecture on the PIIs are way better, but is it more important to buy Phenom I with quad core over a CPU with fewer cores? If you have a suggestion on which processor, would you mind also linking me to a cheap but dependable motherboard? 2. I am pretty clueless about CPU fans. I've built one computer in the past using the fan & heatsink that came with the processor, and it worked fine as I don't plan on overclocking or anything. Would the AMD heatsink/fan be reliable this time around? 3. I am also a noob when it comes to buying cases/power supplies. My past computer had a super cheap low quality one ($60 for case and 350W PSU). What is a cheap but quality case/PSU I can buy? I see that PSUs alone cost like $90 which is kind of expensive. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot!

just try to get more cores, 2.6 ghz will do the job.

if you don't overclock an ordinary fan is enough.

for poer it depends on your gpu, if you are gonna get a powerful one you have to pay for a sufficient one. and they are always expensive!

You can't really cheap out on the power supply. Be careful in choosing one, depending on what graphics card you are thinking of geting. For instance, a 9800GX2 would require at the bare minimum 700W power supply, and a 8600GT OC would only need 450W.

And yes, power supplies are expensive becuase they are important.

For your heat sink/fan issue, it would be nice to know what kind of gamer you are and where you use your computer (personally, I have a poor heatsink, and I require two external fans to keep the room cool).

Thats funny because the min requirements it is marked for on a GX2 is 380 min powersupply.. Now of course should be at least 500w quality or more.. But it certainly do not need something that crazy.. You can run most SLI or crossfires if not all with a 600w psu.. I doubt a single card would ever need that much juice.
