Hey all,

I had another thread wondering if I was paying too much for a pre-built computer and the answer was a overwhelming yes.

I have built a computer (sort of) on new egg along with some parts I may be able to scavenge off of a buddy.

Will you guys please let me know if all of these parts go together?

Thanks again guys! You're awesome ;)

P.S. I tried to hyper link but I kept getting errors sorry. Also, I plan on running the 560ti in SLI mode, so there will be two of course

Everything seems to fit and be good, there's a couple of things I'd like to point out though. It will be an extremely nice rig, but do you really need that sound card? It's pretty expensive, and won't do you much good without a nice headset of even better speakers. Also keep in mind that the soundcard will probably cause higher temps on the GPUs, it will be a pretty tight package down there. And in a rig with this hardware, I would definitely get 8GB RAM. Or are you getting two of those 4GB kits? If you think of doing that, it would be wiser to get a 2x4GB kit, because 4 modules can cause trouble with an aftermarket cooler if you get a larger one. And you should get a good cooler for the CPU btw :) The price on that PSU seems overkill especially since it's a really unknown brand at least for me. A Corsair or Seasonic 850W unit would power anything you throw at it for less money. *I actually googled the powersupply, it has bad reviews so you should absolutely NOT get it.

Thank you so much for all of the help! I will definitely get the 8gb of RAM (the 2x4GB). The sound card I was getting is going to be from a buddy, along with the power supply. Are you suggesting that I just use the onboard sound on the motherboard instead to avoid having problems in the future?

I will also get a different power supply. It may sound naive, but i didn't know there could different qualities to power supplies. I just thought they all did the same thing :P

One more thing...the stock cooler for the cpu is not good? I'm kind of worried about installing an aftermarket cooler! I'll get through it though I guess :P

Thanks again!

I'm new to pc buidling & gaming, but I thought Nvidia & Intel > AMD?

Also, wouldn't two 560tis in SLI beat that new card? Or should I buy the card you are referring to?

By the way, is a single card the way to go? Or is sli/crossfire better for gaming?

Maybe this card will do well in my rig?

Oh, if you get the soundcard for free then by all means use it as long as you get it to fit well with the other parts! Powersupplies vary ALOT in quality. A really cheap 1000W powersupply might actually perform on par with a quality ~850W (as in how much power it really can supply), and have cleaner DC output and higher quality components, making it much more reliable overall. If you get this unit for free though, I guess it's up to you, it was just a really bad one for the price tag. The stock cooler is okay if you didn't plan on overclocking the CPU. The CPU and the mobo are ment for overclocking though, that's why I assumed you were going to do it. It's not that hard to install one :) for a cheaper alternative have a look at the Cooler Master Hyper 212+. If you think you want to try and achieve some more serious clocks, the Noctua NH-D14 is one of the best air coolers with a sensible price tag. There are naysayers about SLI/Crossfire setups. Personally I think they are fine, and usually give more performance per coin compared to a powerful single card. Downside is higher power consumption and in rare cases driver/game support issues. The GTX 580 is currently the most powerful single card, and would fit nicely in your rig. However, as the people above said, the new HD 7970 card is coming out really soon, and will be a bit faster than the 580. If you think you can wait a few days (I read somewhere it would be out the 9th January), it would be wise. 560Ti SLI would be on par with the 7970 according to the benchmarks so far.

Generally speaking a single card is a better choice. You'll have less driver issues, probably less power consumption, less noise, and besides some games are not optimized for multi gpu setups. And of course when you want more performance it's easier to double that one card than to double 2 cards ;). But like the others have said, you should wait for 7970, it's faster than GTX 580 10-30% and also it should bring down the prices of other gfx cars as well.

no, you have that all wrong. Amd and nvidia graphics are the same, they both work equally well with intel cpu. The 7970 is around as strong as 560ti in sli, and its a single card. Also it will have 3gb of xdr ram and can support 3 monitors by itself. Either way, sit tight a few days

I think I would like to OC the cpu and motherboard if it is meant for it.

I added some things to my cart. Would you mind taking a look when you get a chance?

Ram

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233141 (x3) *the ram was cheaper than I thought

Power supply

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139011

Aftermarket Cooler

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608018 (same one you recommended I believe)

Thanks!

Get this RAM kit instead http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148421 for two reasons: You don't need more than 8GB, and they are low profile compared to the corsair ones which could get in the way for that CPU cooler, it's quite big. And 3 RAM sticks is a bad idea, it prevents you from running them in dual channel mode. I have an SSD myself but a rather small one only for Windows. I got it cheap, that's the main reason I have it. It gives you faster boot times and obviously faster read/write times in some tasks, but I can't say I would buy a 300GB SSD myself, they're so expensive. On the other hand 300GB is big enough to install games on and so forth, which gives you faster loading times in them.
