Yeah, another one of these topics, but this time from yours truly! Here's what we're looking at:

CPU:
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
==============================================================================

Case:
Antec Twelve Hundred*, **
==============================================================================

PSU:
Antec TPQ-850 850W PSU**
================================================================================

Motherboard:
Biostar TPower I45 Mobo***
================================================================================

Video Card:
Diamond Radeon HD 4850***

If I'm changing anything, I'd like the price to remain about the same (~$845 without shipping and taxes applied). Also, please take notice of the notes I've included below, but other than those, go nuts! Oh! On a final note, I DO have a hard drive, optical drive, and RAM, which is why I haven't included those items in the build.

* - Some might now agree with my choice of case, but that is one thing that won't be changed in this setup, most likely along with the E8400.

** - These items are in a combo.

*** - These items are also in a combo.

Got a link? Also, I might Crossfire the cards, so I thought a future-proof PSU was in order.

That case is way too expensive. I recommend the Antec 300 or Coolermaster C690. With the money saved, you can buy an X38 or X48 motherboard for better crossfire. Also, i'd take a Corsair power supply over OCZ.

Edit: Diamond offers only 1 year warranty. Get an Asus (3 years), Sapphire (2 years) or Visiontek (lifetime limited).

You might wanna stay away from the 4850's. I have been reading up on then and they over heat like **** really quick. I think it was 96 degrees c on load and 75 idle but its your choice, still looks like a very d and "future proof rig" :P

That's due to low default fan speed (20%?) just use rivatuner and increase it to something like 50%.

X38/X48 give 16x speed on both pci-express lanes, p35/p45 gives 16x/4x speeds. As for a good model, read the comments and search for reviews.

Personally i'd just get a single hd4870, lower power consumption and less heat than crossfire.

Thanks for the link, but are there any specific boards you'd recommend?I'd like for the price to stay around 200, but if I get enough good features, then I might consider paying more.

From what i've gathered in 10-15 min, the ABIT IX38 Quad GT and GIGABYTE GA-X48-DS4 seem pretty good. The first has 8 sata ports, the second has 6, i take it you'll have lots of hard drives and optical drives with that Antec 1200 case.

case is too expensive. If you really want some serious air cooling, try this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811103010

It will be way more quiet due to the large fans and have just about the same airflow.

That is the case I replaced with the Antec 1200. Decent cooling but nowhere near the 1200 although I replaced all of the 120mm fans with 120mm scythe 1900rpm 110cfm fans It droped my mobo temps quite a bit and it is no louder than the xlico. The 5.25" drives are a nightmare to put in on the xlico. After buying a 120mm exaust fan which does not come with the xclico its really not that much less than the 1200.

4850's do run VERY hot. However, when I used one I had no problems with it actually overheating. I did get a mild oc out of it too. Max stable was around 670/1075 from 625/986 using only CCC.

firstly get 4870 sisne it comes out soon and from benchmarks ect looks to be cheap and good.

CPU=GOOD

MOTHERBOARD= avg, id get a x38 asus sisne it very much so reliable when used with intell CPU, also means in furture can crossfire ATI card.

PSU= ok, but id get coolmaster 700w they much queiter and less heat i found.

RAM= seems fine, but didnt say how fast it is?? OCZ are good, but pray you dont have problems or their custemer service is pretty bad at times.

antec case, is good though personal choice id get a silvertonetj107:)

you got any ideas on cooling? id get different fans from stock case ones, and get a sycth zinpang CPU heatsink+fan

What do you think of this motherboard? My RAM is fine, it's been working great since I've had it. It runs at 800MHz at 5-5-5-15 timings I think. And how about this PSU?

1. That's a mid-tower case.
2. I've already found a competitive price for the Antec Twelve Hundred case: $168.
3. Did ANYONE read the note for the case? It's not getting replaced!

I think it is all good, but you should change the mobo to an x48 if you ever want crossfire. The X48s get up to 10 fps more than the p45s

How could a mid tower have more room than a full tower?
