Don't bother with the E8500. Games are going multi-threaded, and even if they weren't, the Phenom II x3 720 beats the E8500 due to being able to unload background processes onto a third core. Also, the E8500 costs way too much for what it is, you can get an AMD quad core for the price. Up the video card to at LEAST an HD5770, if you want it to last that long, but I would bump it up to an HD4890 or HD5850.

that motherboard is horrible and an outdated socket, the 9500gt wont even run new games even close to max settings so don't expect it to last till 2013. yeah it will all work together but if you don't want to upgrade before 2013 you better get a quad core. the athlon 2 230 is a much better deal and will save you over $50. sure the e8500 will be better in single threaded apps but with most new games now using 3 cores the athlon will be much better and will be much better for future proofing. dual core was yesterday, quad core is the future http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=187_345&products_id=12979 motherboard http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=12318 if you really want to go with a dual there is the athlon 2 245 for $83 under half the price of the e8500 for pretty much identical gaming performance. http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=187_345&products_id=12138

That case is aweful and the watercooling in it is crap, best bet is to look for a cheaper Antec or Coolermaster case and then if you really want watercooling get one of the Corsair H50s. Agree on the GFX that card is a waste of time you should aim for something like an ATI 4850 or Nvidia GTX260 as a starting point unless you don't want to play anything other than solitaire, best stumping up for a 5850 if you can afford it which with the amount you should save from ditching that case should be achievable.

You couldn't be more wrong. the E8500 kills the 945x4

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/default.aspx?p=55&p2=80

as you can see it destroys it in most benchmarks.

doesn't mean you chose good parts either. Its the video card that counts. Spend more on the video card.

Ya, a whole 2 fps higher average at 1680x1050+ with games that support only 2 cores as soon as move to games that support quad cores, Phenom ii's smoke the E8400 and come close to i7. And why buy a discontinued socket?

:o No need to use those fightin' words (lol)

Look yes its a better processor, but it costs alot and really the thing that matters is the video card. In fact I was thinking you should get a Phenom II and a good video card.

My point is that if you get that processor, your PC isn't gonna be as well as it could be 'cause of the gpu.

Thats why I max every game at 1680x1050 with 4x AA on average(Except Crysis of course). Also my 8800GT's in SLi perform about the same as your 4870  , Plus I have Physx options too. So I wouldnt say anything......

Plus heres i7 920 vs P2 955 hmm their very close specially in gaming. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/default.aspx?p=88&p2=47

If you think those were fighting words then i feel bad for ya. and Physx = meh especally when ATi gets Hardware Accelorated Havoc physics. Also i wouldnt brag about having 2 cards that barely perform as well as my single card.

Those werent fighting words, nor bragging that was the truth. And also 2007 gpu vs a late 2008 early 2009 gpu, all i was saying is my 8800s in sli equal to your 4870, so you had no reason to say "Comming from the guy with an old Athlon 6000 processor and 2 dated cards" When my cpu out does yours too.

Thanks I'm looking over the parts now and working out how to spend the money that you'll be saving me (probably fans or External HardDrive). I was so stupid i didn't even look at anything that wasn't either Intel or Thermaltake D: thanks for the recommendations.
