As long as it can run Gears of War and COD 4 and the such well enough, I'll be good. What do you think? Anything that's missing I likely already have (16x dvd-rom, tower case)

About the only thing you got that was decent is the RAM.

For the motherboard, pick a different chipset. It's not as if you should bother going SLI with 8600 cards anyway, and the new AMD 770, 790X, and 790FX chipsets are much more future-proof. Personally I'd go with a Gigabyte 790X board for a bit more myself, but if budget is an issue, pick up the MSI 790X board instead.

That graphics card is severely outclassed. This HD2900GT puts the big hurt on that 8600GTS, or if you can push up your budget a bit more, the HD3850 is also a great card.

That power supply isn't something I'd trust in one of my own rigs. I'd take the Antec Earthwatts 430w over that Purepower, or maybe stretch it a bit to get the Corsair VX550w, which is at a very good price on Newegg right now.

That processor isn't all that great for the price - save yourself some money and pick up the X2 5000+ Black Edition and a nice heatsink/fan of your choosing (the X2 5000+ does not come with a stock cooler).

Hard drive is up to you, but I'd say we're fast approaching the point where having less than 250GB of hard drive space in a gaming rig is going to be pushing it a bit. It's only around $10 more, but up to you.

1. I have that mobo and I love it, however if you are going to sli you cant run both cards at 16x. Also the clips for the PCI-e slots are a little cheap.

2. If you have more money to spend on the GPU I would do it. There is nothing wrong with the 8600GT, however there are better alternatives for a little more money.

3.That PSU isnt the greatest, and again if you plan to sli you cant because you only have one PCI-e power connector. I have a 500W earthwatts from antec, best PSU ive had.

4. I have that processor, LOVE IT, on the other hand the 6400+ is the same price right now, and it has a bigger L2 cache, however I havent had much luck overclocking this chip, the 5600 oc's much better. Be prepared for it to run hot. The 6400+ doesnt come with a HSF, however if you are spending this much, just go ahead and get a cooler from zalman or other.

5. Ram is fine

6. HD is a little small for todays computers, but it should be alright.

1. I honestly don't even know what sli is, this was all recommended to me by a friend. What would be a good motherboard then?

2. I would, but I don't really need it, I'm fine with medium performance. I don't wanna fork out an extra $100 or so dollars. I'm open to suggestions though.

3. I will look into it. I read the 8600gts needs at least 450w but I'm getting 500w to be safe.

4. How do you suggest I keep it cool? Also I don't plan to overclock anything ever

6. I have 2 other hard drives already, 40gb/80gb, neither of those are full yet.

Also I'm going to be buying more older games than newer ones. I like to wait until things get cheap. :P

sli'ing is running two graphics cards on one motherboard, it stands for Scalable link interface.

No matter if you oc or not, the 6000+ will run hot. I have the Zalman 9500 CPU ball cooler, search it on Newegg.

I am considering the 770atx motherboard above, I would like to know if thats good enough.

Also is it really an issue for the processor to get hot? Does it come with its own cooling system? Or should I get one seperately. I saw the one you mention, but I'm trying to conserve as much money as possible.

For that processor its really a good idea to get an aftermarket HSF, however it isnt NEEDED. You'll be fine running on the stock HSF for a bit, but eventually i would get a good HSF. The gigabyte Mobo is nice, personally ive had 3 MSI boards die on me, and I will never buy anything from them again, but thats not saying you wont be happy with one. I like that Gigabyte board due to the PCI 2.0 and compatability with AM2+ processors, however it only has 4 sata ports.
