Building around a gtx 690

So I'm thinking of upgrading my GTX 580 to a GTX 690 which has led me to thinking about upgrading my mobo and cpu to maximize it. Right now, I'm running an i7 920 and the LGA 1366 is pretty much obsolete. Simple question...what is the best performing cpu/ mobo for gaming that will fully unleash the GTX 690? Thanks.

Doesn't the 1366 chip set throttle a lot more than the ivy bridge?

Also the i7 runs kind of warm.

Because it eats all other cards alive. I run a single monitor...a 52 inch hdtv at 1080, so I dont really need 4 gigs vram..although I might go for a 670 or 680 4 gig.

Titan has slightly weaker performance for the same price, but it's a single gpu. Also, I think it's even less available than the gtx 690.

Nah need a single card solution. Have audio recording hardware in the same box. The 690 does seem like overkill. Will probably go with a gtx 670 or 680 till the 700's come. Some the question now is what's the fastest and coolest 670 4gb? I could just OC it to a 680.

Just get two 670s or two 7950s. Much better value for money. 

You're running at 1080p? No need for a 690. I would just get a GTX 680 or 7970 GHz edition and be done with it.Marfoo

Yes, 1080p will not stress a 670 let alone a 690... I had to jump up to 2560 x 1600 to justify a second 670. Anything less and the single card was fine.

I would advise against GTX Titan atm unless you are comfortable flashing the BIOS on a $1000 GPU.  

There are numerous reports of people having mysterious throttling problem, even though many/most don't experience it (I don't have it on either of mine).  nVidia's official response is vague, and says to wait several weeks.

There is a user-created BIOS you can flash to fix it, but your warranty is void while running that BIOS.

I would just overclock your 920 and just pick up a 4gb GTX 670 there is no need for a GTX 690 04dcarraher

A GTX 670 is not much faster than a GTX 580.  A 4GB GTX 680 would be a more noticeable improvement, but still I don't think it's even worth going upgrading from a 580 to a 680.  I prefer a Titan over a 690 even though they cost the same, simply because I don't like SLI.
