Hey guys, I haven't built a PC in a while. Matter of fact, I am quite out of date in terms of recent PC parts. I am looking into building a budget PC that is capable of playing some of today's games, but mostly for other recreational use such as hooking up the PC into my HDTV to watch movies, etc. These are the parts I plan to buy, however, I am VERY open to suggestions and will consider.

Case: Cooler Master $74.99

GPU: ATI 4850HD 512MB, includes HDMI port $114.99 (MR: -$15.00)

PSU: Corsair 650W $109.99 (MR: -$20.00)

Mobo + RAM combo: Asus P5Q Pro + OCZ 4GB(2x2GB DDR2 1066) $160.98 (MR: -$40.00)

CPU + OS combo: Intel Core 2 Duo 3.16Ghz E8500 Wolfdale + Vista 64bit Home Premium $269.98

Misc: Extra HDMI Cable $9.99

HDD: Probably going to reuse my HDDs, so I will probably won't buy unless I absolutely need to. $0.00

Subtotal: $740.92

Tax: $67.26

Shipping:$0.00

Promo: -$13.80

Total: $794.38

Mail in Rebates: -$75.00

Total After MR: $719.38

I'm trying the squeeze every penny I can, shipping was absolutely KILLER the first couple times I built a PC and thus I have learned from my mistakes. I grealy appreciate any suggestions on what I can do, or whether or not these parts are any good. Perhaps they are TOO outdated? Look forward to any replies I might recieve! I plan on buying tonight unless I recieve no feedback.

Thanks!

-Ben

I am putting a pc together for myself, and have researched quite a bit, and i would recommend the following changes;

Case: NZXT HUSH

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146035

GPU: SAPPHIRE Vapor-X Radeon HD 4850 512MB

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102833

Power Supply: FSP Group FX600

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817104014&Tpk=FSP

The case (other then being cheaper) is also quiter, and i think, better looking. The graphics card is also much quiter, and the vapor-X cooler is said to cool cards really well (great for OC'ing). The power supply is not as well known as say Corsair, but is used by people who know their stuff, because it is a REAL quality company. Just read some of it's reviews, and check it's bangin' effieciency specs, which mean is cooler and so quiter.

-czech, hope you consider my suggestions

How do I get a hold of Windows 7 and is it any better then Vista? From what I have read, only the beta version has been released and will expire on August 1st, 2009. Not to mention the "bihourly shutdowns" that will begin in July 1st, 2009. Can anyone help clarify this? From what I am understanding... don't buy Vista now and use Windows 7 for 2 more months, THEN consider buying Vista? That idea seems convoluted IMO, unless there is a better alternative.

Bah... on a side note, my 4.5hr chemistry class is going to start in 25 minutes :(.
