My birthday is coming up and I am looking to basically build a whole new computer with a few parts from my old computer thrown in. I am gonna get a new processor/ PSU/ graphics card/ motherboard/case. I did a little shopping around on newegg.com and this is what I came up with. Now just so you know, I am not the most tech savvy person out there, so any advice would be great. Now I might be able to stretch my budget a little if need be. I keep hearing comparisons on different brand names and different versions of a product (example 640mb gts vs 320mb gts, 650i mobo vs 680i), if there is a version that is superior to the one below please let me know.

Also I will be looking into overclocking some components.....when I know exactly what to do that is. I am a gamer at heart so I will be playing the latest and greatest games on this computer.

Last but not least. I tried to build  a computer last year and it didnt turn out so good due to my lack of research. So this time around I would like to get it right. Do any of you tech experts see anything that would cause compatibility issues or anything that would be  a problem?

that sounds like a good rig, even though a E6400 will push the 8800 wel, maybe get the E6600 or OC your E6400. but on the whole very good rig.

Kick the processor up to an E6600, change the power supply to the Corsair HX620w, get the 320MB 8800GTS if your monitor is smaller than 24", get the ASUS P5N-E instead of the P5N32-E SLI, and I'd also recommend picking up some RAM so your system actually works - 2x1GB of G.Skill DDR2 800 should do it very nicely, and won't break the bank.

You will want to overclock that e6400, just for the heck of it. I would wait until the e6420's come out, though. The e6400, stock at 2.13Ghz, will easily be pushed to e6600 level, at 2.4Ghz. Even more, with the stock cooling, and even more more with a very cheap (~$50) Tuniq Tower 120, a worthy investment.

Agreed. The Corsair HX series are excellent PSUs that handle powerful components easily.

ummm.... just a thought...if you're going to look into overclocking like you said you would....check out the e4300.....that processor overclocks like hell , and i mean HELL... also i would suggest getting the 320 mb gts ....it's much cheaper and overall better value for money....make sure you get an nforce 680i motherboard though and 2 gigs of ddr2 800 ram since you're going to overclock in the future..... however, the e6400 is also an excellent processor...it's the one i currently have on my rig... i will overclock it when i get a dx10 card.
