Not much changes from components. Everything generally stays the same and that sticky covers it pretty well in terms of installation. However, picking the parts is very very important. Unfortunately there are not many up to date guides on part selection. This one gives you advice on what you should look for in your parts, but I would not follow the part suggestions themselves because it is out of date.

The guide on gamespot is about as good as it gets. The only difference you may see in some modern systems is a different processor installation (lga775, i5, and i7), and possibly the addition of a second GPU for a SLI or Crossfire configuration.

Some people recommend a YouTube playlist regarding the building of a cumputer. I've never recommended it myself as I've never seen the need for it.

http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=C315B2A086BA6AAF&search_query=how+to+build+a+computer

There's a sticky on TomsHardware regarding troubleshooting a new system build that I recommend to anyone with boot problems.

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261145-31-read-posting-boot-problems

Also, if you run into a hitch when building a new system, there are many, many people on this forum with previous experience on building PC's who are more than willing to give advice and tips.

I got frustrated again... Phenom II is a budget solution... Dude, some people: 1. Like AMD and it's flawless gameplay. 2. Don't want to pay more for a platform that will not mean a difference in what they do. I really had the money to get an i7 and I didn't. Saying Phenom II is a budget CPU is absurd. A budget CPU is Phenom II X2 550. Damn I hate that, damn.... Arrrrgh!

Yes. But the point is Phenom II (was) not a budget CPU. Now, though, AMD is preparing for six cores so the prices went down substantially. I love to watch the relation between I5 and PII 965 sales, it seems every time I5 tries manages to catch up PII gets more buyers... PII 940 has over 1500 :o I think it is the most successful AMD CPU in 2009.

Eeew 965. I like AMD but if there is a processor that is severely overpriced its that one.
